NeuroFreeze inventor Jyothi Arikkath, Ph.D., stores the frozen neurons in liquid nitrogen. Cells cryopreserved using NeuroFreeze retain up to 90 percent viability, a dramatic improvement over the 30 percent rate of other methods.
NEURON 2018 is a 3-day event offering seminars, symposiums, oral presentations, workshops and poster presentations on the latest treatment innovations in the field of Neurology, Oncology, Neurosurgery, Brain Stroke, Medical Imaging, and Cancer by experts. We are honored to invite you to World Neuron Congress to be held in the Bucharest, Romania during September 13-15, 2018. The Theme of the World Neuron Congress is “Scientific quest to enhance the mystified and fascinating Neurons ", which covers wide range of critically important sessions in the field of Neurology.
MU students Caitlyn, Peyton, and Mackenzie are conducting research on Schwann cells in the Henry Science Center. SCs are the main supporting cells within the peripheral nervous system which consists of all of the nerves outside of your brain and spinal cord. SCs secrete a lipid-based sheath, called myelin, that insulates your neurons and promotes the rapid conduction of electrical impulses from your body. For example, if someone stubs their toe, they would feel it instantly thanks to their Schwann cells. Caitlyn, Peyton, and Mackenzie's research focuses on using the Schwann cells as a model to gain a deeper understanding of what happens to individuals during peripheral nerve injuries.

This is a neuron. It's a brain cell, and your brain has around 100 billion of them. Some of them, such as the ones in the outer area of your brain, called the cerebellum, can have over 1,000 connections each.
This is a model of a neuron at the American Museum of Natural History. It is connected to another neuron (out of frame in the top right) by a long arm called the dendrite.
