I had breakfast today with a friend who works in Peru, who gave me a gift of this expensive, traditional hat (okay, he said they sell them on the street for about a dolloar).
These little binoculars are among the favorite conference swag, from an ELI conference a few years back. I keep 'em on my window sill to spy on the birds.
The sixth annual mountain bike race in Pine / Strawberry Arizona that raises funds to protect the communities from forest fires. The 15 mile course climbs the steep Hardscrabble Road from Pine, up over Strawberry Mountain, into the town of Strawberry, and back down single track to Pine. Racers do 1, 2, or loops.
These photos are from where I volunteered at the turn from Forest Road 428 into the private ranch land leading to the climb over the mountain top. Learn more and maybe ride next year at fireontherim.com

A quick visit to the critters at the Fossil Creek Ranch, where they have llamas and goats (and tremendous cheese and fudge from the goats).
I learned today from John the co-owner that the main duty for the llamas is keeping the coyotes and javelinas away from the goats.
