Spotted in Guadalajara. That logo of parents and happy kids dashing off into the sunset (or is it ASU's Global Freshman Academy?)
It's bad enough the keyboard on my 2013 MacBook Pro are worn, the trackpad is starting to give out too, it only clicks in one corner. This is the first mouse I have used since like 1998.
My usual breakout room on the 6th floor were all taken, had to wander to 3rd floor, found empty classroom. This was where I ran the hangout for Tuesday's NetNarr class.
Today's Daily Create assignment is:
Modern Vintage
July 10, 2014 also Feb. 3, 2015 Ruin Porn
Take a photo of something modern and make it look like it is from a very old photo. Get creative, don’t just slap it into black and white or through in a cheesy sepia filter. How can you compose the image to make it look older than it is?
I'll be on the road today, but I am posting this photo taken by my sister in Feb. 2014. Our Mom is hugging the heart pillow, so this is immediately after her open heart surgery.
I didn't exactly use a "cheesy sepia filter," although I did use a distressing filter--it's just a matter opinion whether it is "cheesy" or not. I think it's an amazing look that plunges this family portrait straight back into the Italian Renaissance!
The cherry tomatoes on my garden started turning today. The odd thing is-- I never planted them,. nor have I ever bought any that might have found their way into my compost.
And there are two of these plants growing there; I have no explanation.
I might have to learn to like these...
Yield from last night's apple sauce making extravaganza - about 3+ hours to make 6 quarts from 2 large pots of apples (and almost twice as many apples sitting still in the box).
The canning part was a flop, the big pot was just starting to reach full boil after 45 minutes on the stove, and it was already almost 1am. Th don't need these preserved anyhow since most will go into the crockpot today to make apple butter (currently cooking down) and the rest I will refrigerate.
An odd desert couple- the setting sun poked out of the clouds and lit the desert up from here to the base of Four Peaks (background)
Ok, I am diabetic, but sometimes you will see me eat sugar, WTF?
It works like this, the magic juice most people's bodies make, insulin, is pumped out just enough to metabolize whatever you eat.
My pancreas crapped out, so my insulin comes in throgh extnerally, and it works whether I eat or not meaning my blood sugars can fly higher and lower thna normal.
So for the "lows" i keep some sugar cookies around- usually the cheap store brand.
Yep I live in the west. I have a steer skull on my living room.
His name is "Herman".
My Mom bought Herman in Scottsdale as a gift for me (his name is my middle name, what are the odds?)
This is known as cooking by experimentation. Based loosely on a recipe for Mediterranean Eggplant Soup, I did a bunch of creative subbing (green peppers for celery, real tomatoes and tomato sause for diced toms, garlic powder for garlic cloves) and tossing in of this and that (carrot greens, random spices), my Hodge Podge Eggplant Soup came out not half bad.
My nagging annoying mild asthma cough has gotten no better, maybe worse. so my Dr is upping the ammunition. That's Dulera on the left taken twice a day and Albuterol on the right,as needed when the hacking gets bad.
I hate having to take this stuff. But i hate this ongoing cough.
Probably the most unique feature of the redesigned California Academy of Sciences is the "Living Roof"- an example of sustainable design which features plants, water retention, passive cooling, and solar panels to generate electricity.
Today's ds106 daily create is the first of a series of four related ones, get in on the action now:
Create a visual that might accompany one of the mashed up headlines from @twoheadlines
The headline I chose was
Wonder Woman Arrives In Tokyo, Opening Weeklong Asia Trip
twitter.com/TwoHeadlines/status/408417180251086848
With US reputation at stake internationally, President Obama had his military leaders pull in one of the most trustworthy emissaries. Wonder Woman here inspects the Japanese Imperial Navy and later she consulted in tactical improvements for the JDS Kashima.
Also, as part of the outreach, all troops aboard the ship will now carry magic lassos.
Next week, Wonder Woman heads off to Iran to whip up some support. Not literally, of course.
Maybe.

The smiling hippy chick behind the counter at the restaurant on Nelson handed me my change. "Oh look, you get a lucky dollar coin" (coy smile).
Sure, I am in Canada, and people have that "nice" thing going, so I'm ready to believe. And their money is close to ours, except for more use of dollar and two dollar coins, so why not think there might be variations in coinage>
The light was low, or I was dim, and I glanced at it, not exactly getting why the coin was special-- I still am not always sure which one is the single dollar. So I saw it looked different, but did not look closely enough.
It was not until back at the table when I showed it to my Canadian friends... and shrunk at their laughter-- Hippy Chick had passed me a US dollar coin (worth less than a Canadian equivalent).
What a rube am I. Just write "sucker" on a sticker and slap it on my back. She saw me coming and going.
Maybe.
I've had that dollar in my wallet for a week-- and all kinds of good things have been coming my way. Even more than usual.
So this is me smiling back at you, Hippy Chick-- you got a laugh, but I have some strong Mojo luck going here.
@dailyshoot 2011/03/26: Today, let's illustrate the emotion of being happy. Make a photograph that represents happiness to you. #ds496
Happy maybe because of another fun breakfast with friends at the Randall House, in Pine, AZ.
Happy maybe for making the Clean Plate Club.
Happy for making symbols with orange rind.
Happy because I cannot eat pie, but can think of the magic of a ratio.
My dad's tools from his days of old school drafting and measuring, leading to a photo of him in Florida making a brick pathway,
Am I paranoid? Or is it the new twitter? 2019 might be the year to amp up my web caution as well as dish out some new NetNarr Digital Alchemy (this is a shot for the opening course page)

A Photo of You, in Public, Wearing the Most Mis-Matched Socks You Own (or borrow from @shareski)
April 15, 2014
Matching socks are so over-rated. Go through your draw, and find ones that go together least, put them on, and get a photo of your mis-matchedness in a public place. If you are short on socks, ask Dean Shareski for a pair.
The collection of old music, most likely my grand-parents (Grandma liked the Hungarian and Gypsy music). Might be a digitizing project for the winter
It's the odd time of year when summer storms soak the normally dry ground so much that have no choice but to produce giant mushrooms
Would like to come back to see more around this area, especially after having read "The Devil and the White City"
I can remember seeing them use for shuttle paperwork in old stores like the Sears at Mondawmin Mall in Baltimore.
