Neptune can sometimes be hard to photograph and catch the true color, too. It depends on the light. But this is a true one... it's a lovely lavender.
Neptune's chariot is being led by Tritons with sea horses - one wild and one docile, representing the two moods of the sea.

Easily my most favorite statue/monument in Europe. I love how goth it is--the man with an icicle-like mustache in the side, and I love how Neptune is holding a pitchfork thing at the top. At night, it is lit up, changing to a different color every few seconds. I like it purple. :-)
I am redoing an old Belgium series for Gary, who I have found to be as big of a Belgiophile as I am.
Upper lock at the flight of locks known as Neptune's Staircase, where the Caledonian Canal descends to sea level.
The signature event of the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival and it continues to expand and grow as the Neptune Festival vies to make Virginia Beach the sandsculpting capital of the world! The international field of 32 sculptors, 12 solo and 10 double teams represent 11 countries from around the world and all competing for over $57,500 in awards and stipends. According to sculptor John Goody (Italy), â(This) is by far the best event on our national sand competition circuit. From management, to total prize package, to hotel accommodations, to just plain fun, this event is second to none."

One of the locks along the old Welland Canal that are a part of what is called Neptune's Staircase. The locks with running water are fenced in...but there aren't any 'No Tresspassing' signs around...so...no fences in the pic :)
