This is a photograph from the first round of the Mullingar Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 7th May 2014 at 20:00. The race follows the roads and trails around Belvedere and is a very testing 5KM route. The race is promoted by Mullingar Harriers for the Pat Finnerty Memorial Cup. Competitors need to run 3 races out of the 4 races in May (any order) to be considered in the overall placing in categories at the conclusion of the league. Over 350 people took part in tonight's event. The weather was positively wintry with a very cold wind in the face of runners for the 1KM and the final KM of the race.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Carolyn and Ed Rose, married 50 years, founded MEND (Meet Each Need With Dignity) in the 1970's out of their garage in Mission Hills. With help from a lot of other people with similar passions and concerns about the poverty being faced in our country, they were able to grow the organization into a foundation which helps about 30,000 families a month. They provide balanced meals for families, clothing, health care services, diabetic care, and more. MEND is unique in that it is powered almost completely by volunteers. Some that have even utilized the services of MEND themselves for their families when they were in a time of need. MEND's main goal is to help others become self-sufficient and empower them to live meaningful lives.

Ed: In the beginning, our first thoughts were just to help people, so there was no such thing as a big picture of MEND in our vision at all. There was a group of us, and we worked with a catholic priest in San Fernando at Santa Rosa Catholic church in the 1970’s, and as the people would come to him asking for help, we were going to respond to it.
Carolyn: at the beginning we were all volunteers. We did the basic Band-Aid services, (that’s what we called them) we couldn’t do anything major because we all were working and none of us had any money, so three of us put little food pantries in our garages and we also had the clothing and some of the furniture in our garage. We started with no money, and we would go to different pastors when we needed money, to ask for support, then later on our pastor suggested we become a non-profit so we could really go out and solicit money and people would be willing to give more because they could get the tax right off and not have to go through the church.
Carolyn: Everybody agreed we wanted to do this outreach kind of thing in Pacoima because the needs are so great in this area, and that is basically how we started mend.
Ed: We have grown to be really one of the best, course I’m prejudice…
Carolyn: (laughs)
Ed: …one of the best non-profit agencies in the valley if not of all Los Angeles. A lot of it has to do with Marianne’s leadership, our president, we were really lucky, cause if you get the wrong leader, they can do a lot of damage to an organization., and were just so lucky we got a really top-notched person who really cared.
Carolyn: a lot of our staff people have some of those same qualities. In todays society we need to be able to do that. We help each other, we share things with each other, and especially the food department, they share with other food pantries or other places, we have an excess of something, they have an excess of something, so we trade. We are getting to have a larger base because of all of the people here that are doing so much, the staff plus volunteer’s, we are always on the look out for new volunteers. A lot of our volunteers and staff have a lot of empathy, and some of our staff were clients and then volunteers, and even some of out other staff maybe had not been clients but they grew up in situations where they were very poor and so they have really good understanding of what’s going on.
Ed: When I grew up we didn’t have a lot. So, just different experiences I had. I remember one time in grade school we were having a play and we were supposed to do a square dance… thing, and so I wore what I considered to be my best jeans down there and this other kid that I knew said, Jesus, those things look horrible, you should have told me I would have loaned you one of my pair of pants…
And I just made a joke and said we’re supposed to be westerners and so I wore these pants but really they were the best pants I had!
Ed: I feel that there is a huge amount of our population in this country that have really good hearts and would like to do something, and we make that possible here at MEND because other organizations may be medical or legal and they only need a certain kind of people with a certain skill set, but here, anybody that wants to help we can have them help us, whether its filing, or cleaning the building, or doing things in the medical center. Up in the medical center every professional is a volunteer. The nurses, dentists [pharmacist, optometrist’s, 100% percent are volunteers, a variety of them. We offer people a chance to do what their heart tells them to do.

Today I also got this blonde Skipper doll. She has the old body with Skipper marking. She has a Skipper marking transversely and not longitudinally under the foot. Her hair is unusual thick like Bubble Cut's hair and as brittle as Color Magic/Malibu hair. This hair is not mentioned in the Skipper book and otherwise I find nothing about it so it would be nice if someone can give me more informations :)

They don't let you try the item till you buy it, and then once bought, if you want to return it and the package is open (and you need to open it to try it!), they charge you 15% for "repackaging". You purchase it at the counter and then they give you a ticket so you pay at a separate cash till. There's a one year guaranteed but only valid in US and Canada.
I went to try the camara at the City Hall Park that is in front (by the way, the park is very nice with streetlights with small, live fires inside) and when it strongly started to rain (again!!) I went inside the Starbucks next door to have a coffee and read the manual.

The format is simple: the audience provides the topics and the cartoonists let it rip. It's like Iron Chef, but the secret ingredient is punch lines instead of asparagus. Cartoonists don't often perform in public without having the benefit of their usual crutches: a comfortable desk, oodles of time and bathtubs full of whiskey. So this is a rare opportunity.

Five prisoners have escaped from the Lompoc Federal Prison in the last five months, in four separate incidents (as of 22 Dec 2009). I think they were all drug dealers, of various persuasions. One has been recaptured. I guess there is a reason they call it a low security facility. But the Gitmo "detainees" will be safe in their new home in Illinois, says the admin.

The Royal Academy of Arts doesn't really need any introduction but I'll provide you with one anyway. Founded by King George III all the way back in December 1768, its centuries long mission has been to promote British art and design via 'education and exhibition' (thanks, wikipedia!). Still going today, independent and privately funded, it seems to be doing this quite well. In terms of the 'education' aspect - the Royal Academy Schools form the oldest art school in Britain, and also . And for the exhibition - they possess a massive collection of art, much of it extremely rare. And they also champion âup-and-comersâ - which they bloody well should do. Go into the courtyard at Burlington House at the moment ad the first thing you shall see will be the current installation, which looks likeâ¦I dunno⦠WW2 era sea mines crossed with a touch of Scandinavian minimalism and some of the decor from a the Casino Night Zone in Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Anyhow, within this hallowed institution's hallowed courtyard you shall find The Keeper's House. It is called this because it was traditionally the place where the academy's Keeper lived (the current ones doesnât live there though, which seems sad considering itâs full of supercool shit). The Keeper did a lot of stuff (though looking after bees and errant footballs were not included) - I think mainly it comes down to administrative work and âkeepingâ the art collection. Keeping it looking pretty andâ¦educational maybe.
And, within The Keeperâs House is The Shenkman Bar (named after a notable RA architect, I think?). We were invited down to said bar because of a man/cocktail genius/excellent human being named Fabio Fritolli - who I met some months back at the Cichetti bar, and who I now count as a friend. Fabio is a bar consultant - and since this, his current project, was coming to an end, he wanted us to come down and help him see it off in style! All I can say is that everything is SERIOUSLY on fucking point and that Iâd love to know where he gets his ideas from. We're all very much looking forward to Fabio's next project.
okay, im sorry but i need to vent and i have no one to vent to so i figured i would just write down all my thoughts here. now im sorry for this and you dont have to comment and try and make me feel better, because no matter what anyone says it would be quite hard to change my mind.
so lets start from this photo...september 2010, as you can see by my perfect collar bones, i had finally reached my perfect body 107 lbs. all the running and eating healthy gave me exactly what i wanted. i had the body i always dreamed of, the perfect running body, i was so quick and thin.
9 months past and im not this thin anymore. now i have "hypothyroid" (i used to have hyper is can switch itself very easily) so if you don't know what hypothyroid is, basically its a condition where you gain weight for no reason and its extremely hard to lose weight.
so nine months later, i dont have this body anymore...and i dont even want to say how much weight ive gained because its embarassing...so now my life sucks i worked so hard for that body, i always rejected any junkfood offered to me and my diet was perfect! i ran over 30 km a week and life was perfect.
now that i have hypothyroid i still keep those same habits up...i try and eat as healthy as i can and i try to run my best...but im not seeing any results. like ive been trying so hard to get that body back but it doesnt work becuase of this stupid thyroid condition.
im sorry i dont know where this is going but im just so mad and upset and confused. and i cant even take pictures of myself because i look so fat.
ugh im sorry whatever.
this makes no sense, im sorry i have no one to vent to and it just makes me feel a bit better knowing that maybe someone read this and maybe someone understands how i feel.

Needed a big splash of bright colour to post in between the other two photos for today, LOL. It's been a gorgeous day today, with a continuation of the spectacular hoar frost we've had the last few days - plus sunshine! Decided to drive just south of the city this morning to enjoy seeing a blue sky for a change. By the afternoon, the hoar frost had disappeared. We are in for a few "warmer" days ahead, thank goodness.
