Actually, the cicadas in Israel are quiet as a stalking cat near the ones I heard in the jungles of Thailand. When I walked in these jungles, I thought someone's cuting trees with a damn chainsaw. Spooky.

WHAT TO TAKE
With 3 days to go until I leave for Lake Mungo I am starting to think about what to take.
This was a pic I took on a past journey. When I am a loaded and successful photographer sponsored by Toyota (hint hint) i might have a nice new shiny 4WD with roof racks and all sorts of flash sleeping gear. But for now I have to make do with the trusty golf (I love this car) to take me and my stuff.
One of the things about heading into the remote locations I do, is that accomodation is often miles from where I am. And of course we are shooting all night, so sleep occurs for a few hours in the morning (more on this later).
So I sleep in the Golf, I carry all of my gear, food and clothes in the Golf. I love this car. But it does mean I have to think about what I take. I have a lot of gear this trip. I have some new timelapse rigs, camera dollys, and will need to take lots of warm stuff as it will be FREEZING up at the lake.
I will be showing all of the gear I am taking in detail in a post. But I am starting to think about it tonight.
I am off to my studio in about an hour to see what I need, and will be bringing it home to sort.
Tonight I am also looking closely at the weather as it starts to get pretty accurate this close.
I am also considering leaving a day earlier than original, as I got some exciting news today about lake mungo that I will share later.
YEAH! I love the Ball of Light.

This piece started with the wooden ball I was given. I thought it would make a great head. Then the embroidery hoop caught my attention and the thought of creating a saint like person was born. I needed a purpose or theme for this project.
I thumbed through the book In Celebration of Women, given to my by my good friend Mary Hernandez whom I taught with in Dallas for 10 years when I left to pursue my masters degree. I found the quote " Each woman is far from average in the daily heroics of her life, even though she may never receive a moment's recognition in history. " introduction to "Women & Work", Newsage Press
I liked that quote and thought I might tie that in somehow. I then left for my Docent meeting at the Boise Art Museum and Bob happens to mention did we remember that March is Women's History Month. This years theme is Our History Is Our Strength. Stories of women's achievements, which tied into my masters Thesis: The influence of a female high school art educator on the careers of her students.
So now my piece had a meaning! Celebrating women's achievements!
Nothing was bought specifically for this piece. It is made entirely of items that were cast off, previously used for another purpose. The outer halo is an embroidery hoop, the next circle was a tin and cardboard container given to me by a friend, I put gold leaf on it and glued gold buttons and baubles with E6000 glue. The upper body is a bagel holder/slicer thingy that didn't work so well for what it was made for and the lower body is a piece of discarded lumber. The mirror is attached to the front for you to reflect on your own life, who knows...you may just find out you are far from average too! $75
Sometimes we need to take a brief step back from reality and "remember" times that have warmed our hearts. I did just that today -- took a break from the ice and cold outside and remembered my "snowball bush" and the sweet scent of the summer blossoms. How wonderful!!!!! Soon summer will be here and the sunshine and warm days will no longer be a memory! Bathe your mind in warm memories today and be renewed and refreshed! :-)

Needed to swap around some eyes so I thought I'd take a long overdue photo of all of my Mystics! These are exclusively Low Dome 12/14mm

Blue Jelly is ironically not very blue (kind of a pale turquoise green).
Horizon Blue is like a dimmed version of Sea Green, which is a gorgeous bright blue.
Sea Water (which is oddly named since it is the... more green colour) is a lovely turquoise.
Sea Smokey is a cold-spectrum, pale blue.
The Limiteds are always so dreamy, I wish Isaia's eyes were more open so I could appreciate the #15's more, which are a pale green with darkened rims. #4 is an amazing emerald green.
Honey Gold is like a golden yellow, not actually metallic, but it has a nice glow to it.
Lavender 2 is a warm-ish purple.
Coffee Bean is a medium brown, not particularly red, just a nice neutral brown.
I awoke at some point very early in the morning, I looked round the edge of the curtains, and the sun was just about to rise, the sky a mix of blue and pink, all over. I needed more sleep.
I woke again just after seven, behind schedule and needing a shower and to pack.
That done I went down to the reception to check out, then go for breakfast, and it was the emptiest I had ever seen it, with just two diners, one being my colleague Manu, so I joined him for coffee and to talk.
The car is loaded, I find some station playing an old Bee Gees track, start the car, open the windows and take the short drive to the office.
Man, it is already hot in the office, and the remote for the air con unit has been lost, so there is little else to do other than to endure it, maybe have the window open ajar. Thankfully that side of the building was in shade for the morning, so it didn't get too hot. And by the time the afternoon arrives, I will be on the road to Arhus.
I find work to do, and fill the morning so that come one in the afternoon it was time to pack up and leave for the 90 minute drive to Arhus.
I say my farewells, it will be two weeks before I am back, so once done, I can walk to the car, across the car park that is so dry it is like a desert. In fact when the wind blows here, sand and grit are blown around, so much so the whole area is called Sahara. Anyway, I get in the car, open all the windows and drive away, wanting to go as fast as possible so that the wind would cool me and the car down.
The Audi is so easy to drive, the steering wheel doesn’t move unless you turn it, it has so much power, it accelerates very quickly. In short, I’m having a blast. Down the motorway for 60 or so km, the turn onto the E45 for the half hour drive up to Arhus South and from there down into the centre of the city, take a left and another 5 minutes to the hotel.
And there I see the first Pokemon Go players. In fact I nearly take four of them out as they run in front of the car, waving mobile phnes in front of them. I park in front of the hotel, check in and take to my room where there is more work to do, enough to keep me busy until half four, when I will go and meet my old RAF buddy, Shaggy.
However, I thought I knew the way, and despite being just a few minute walk from the bar, I convinced myself I knew the way, walked down the hill past the modern art museum, along the road behind it, back up the other side right back to where I started.
I walk round, then see a sign post, so I have to go and check that, and sure enough it points back up the hill, and is some 800m away.
So, by now I was sweating, and walking hard, puffing up the hill, across the intersection, then at the next crossroads, I see the station square, and just a little further on would be the bar.
Shaggs was waiting outside for me, checking with me on Facebook via his phone, sadly mine was in the hotel room, so no chance of answering him. We are meeting because he is going to buy my old 50D body, as I have failed to sell it via e bay, as well as bringing him so British supplies, Bovril and Marmite.
He buys me a drink, and we retire to the beer garden, mixing it with the smokers and wild birds feeding in the tree above us. Its not a bad life, all in all.
After a refill, we go to the diner up the street and have burgers and huge plates of fries and mayo and strong Barley Wine to go with it all. I had no eaten since breakfast, so was hungry, and I can tell you, that it was all good, even though very unhealthy indeed.
Another short walk away was the Mikkler Bar, so we retire there to sample some unusual beers, and at that point I thought we would be calling it a night. Show me the Highlander Bar he asks.
Hmm, I thought I could go in and just have one, so I agree, and we walk along near-deserted streets to the bar, where Julian perks up when he finds he has some ex-forces drinkers in.
We sample the pineapple rum, and some other rum. Then it got silly and we switched onto some far eastern whisky he had just brought back after meeting with the distillers. It was good, aged in sherry casks and is was luscious. Sadly, Julian told me there was an even better one, although twice the price. I can’t resist, and have one for the road, and leave some £65 lighter.
From there it was a short walk back up the hill to the hotel, Shaggs walks back to the station, and all is quiet, apart from the Pokemon players running around on the grass near to the hotel; keeps them fit I suppose.

Phoenix Comic Fest and Kids Need to Read hosted Drinks with Creators. This event provided an opportunity for Comicon members to meet their favorite writers and creators in an informal atmosphere and have a glass or two while discussing all the things. You never know what might happen with a lively bunch of science fiction and fantasy authors and this year did not disappoint with colorful MC Angela Fox with a swear jar, raffles anchored by James A. Owen, Amy K. Nichols, and Ryan Dalton, meanwhile Sylvain Neuvel leading a group rendition of Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer" (youtu.be/AW5pSIW9XGs), and the irrepressible Myke Cole lead the auction shenanigans with frequent encouragement from Sylvain Neuvel, a cartwheel by Christopher Paolini (youtu.be/DH7kKtfCBWA), and a promise of sparing Myke physical damage by Romina Russell auctioned off the signed glasses, banner, and a special edition of the Complete Peanuts collection. All of the three auctions bested last year’s signed photo frame plus starting a family of three with Pierce Brown and picking the children's genders! (youtu.be/XlQZCRaePGw)
