Wings mimic a predator's eyes. It's been difficult keeping the flowers watered enough on 100F days so insects/butterflies get enough nectar.

This young Anna's Hummingbird ordered her nectar to go! The Amistad Salvia flower got stuck on her beak. She had to shake her head to get the flower to fly off. She looked around to see if any other Hummingbirds had witnessed her embarassing moment. At this point, I started laughing as she was so darn cute! This image was taken last Summer in our backyard in Camas, Washington.

Not exactly sure what species, there are several, and we saw a few different ones, regardless, we had fun. This was a bit more technical (took several lights, etc.) than point and click, but was really fun to see how many bats are really out there....we saw dozens and dozens once they came to feed. Life has been a little rough for this swallowtail. Yet, it finds joy in the sweet and colorful nectar in the garden...making the long trip worthwhile. Enjoy little one. Drink until you are content.

unimaginatively named the Common Grass yellow, this little butterfly is helping pollination in my garden. Basil flowers are very acceptable to so many insects.
