On occasion, my Flickr friends, I am going to post scanned images from a weeklong Nature Conservancy trip I took in February 1991 to the Peruvian Amazon. Our tour group stayed at Explorama Lodge, 50 miles down the Amazon River from Iquitos, and Explorama Camp, 95 miles from Iquitos.

For Mother's, Day we decided to find a new place to walk and chose Happy Valley Forest managed by the Nature Conservancy. It was a day of spring woodland flowers. Very nice.

Located in Oregon County in south central Missouri, the Greer Spring branch of the Eleven Point River drops 62 feet over 1.25 miles to form frothy rapids, sculpted rock formations, and breath taking photos for those resolute enough to descend the steep half mile trail off route 19. My three visits to the springs have all been in April when the foilage is fresh and the lighting sublime.

Well, not a new knee really, but a lot of fixing up of the old one :-) So I'm off for my knee surgery tomorrow! In an abstract sense I'm very glad that I've got the chance to fix the torn cartilege and remove the damaged nerves in my knee, but I'm also extremely nervous about the surgery - I'm scared of needles and IVs, and I'm not looking forward to having my knee so weak and sore again. But it's some short term pain in exchange for a long term gain so it's worth it!

Mike Costolo and I met in Wilton, NH today to take photos.
We started at the Blood Brook Dam and then were pleasantly surprised by the photo opportunities at Sheldrick Forest.
Here's what we're thinking - on a Friday night that rains and clears up during the night, the small creeks in Sheldrick Forest would be wonderful at sunrise.
My old herping buddy pointed this out to me, and I couldn't believe it. Not sure how much THC there is in this, so don't get your hopes up.
Got to hike with good friends, my wonderful mother and my 22-month old son at the beautiful Falls Ridge Preserve in Ellett Valley, Virginia.
