Grand Chief Edward John, the Honourable Andrew Wilkinson, Minister of Advanced Education, Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson, representatives of the Musqueam First Nation, and Langara College students, board members, faculty, and staff, gathered on Langara’s campus today to witness a ceremony bestowing a Musqueam name on the College. The ceremony marked the first time a BC First Nation has given an Aboriginal name to a public post-secondary institution.
The event reflected the strengthening relationship between Langara College and the Musqueam people, and an acknowledgement of the College’s location on Musqueam unceded traditional territory. The name given to Langara means house of teachings, and references the advice given to a child to build their character and to guide them in to adulthood.

My Cousin Ramya was blessed with a Daughter a few weeks back. We had the Naming Ceremony for her yesterday and i found this adorable cutie on the crowd. I quickly snapped a couple of pictures of her as she stood dazed due to the direct flash on her.
I experimented this photo session with manual mode all of the time and closed apertures, anything greater than F/9. The Canon Speedlite 430 EX was a great companion for these shots.
I could go all the way upto 1/2000th of a Second on F/13 kind of apertures with the flash gun. Although i messed up quite a few pictures this was a great learning experience for me.
I removed her dad and uncle whom were carrying her and replaced it with the black background. All processing done on Photoshop CS2 for windows.
Canon EOS 400D with the Canon EF-S 18-55MM F/3.5 - 5.6. Manual, F/13, 1/200th of a Second, Canon Speedlite 430 EX Flash Gun.

A neighbor in Ouakam, the quartier that I live in, invited us to the naming
ceremony of his nephew. There was a huge party with lots of music and food,
as well as the ceremony itself. This is the family in their bedroom.

Naming ceremony. a native girl were given name in the traditional way. she dressed up with native dress and her grandmom walked beside her. The contract of hands made the photo.
