America - „A horse with no name“
www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSZXWdKSQNM
On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot, and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound
I′ve been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain′t no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
After two days in the desert sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead
You see I've been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain′t no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
After nine days, I let the horse run free
′Cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The ocean is a desert with it's life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love
You see I′ve been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain′t no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la

My name is unimportant, I am a scavenger and just flew to this berg they call Outlander Colony to refuel. Energy sources are scarce and I have to wait to be recharged. I hope it wont take long, My rations are running low. Been here one day and I will tell you what I know.
The IGG(Inter Galactic Government) has given up on this last colony before deep space. There are no more shipments of food or ammunition. Plenty of Prostitutes, gambling, drugs and alcohol. A few killers have been sent to this place as a form of rehabilitation.
The place is thick with the foul stench of garbage and sweaty bodies. The Air Purification system must be about shot too. The water here ran out a few weeks ago .
There has been low hums of conversations about hearing a voice crackling over the outdated speaker system. I heard it once and the voice was garbled but a word could be caught every now and again .
My hair prickled on the back of my neck as I realized what was happening here.
I have to go ... PPl are running into the shadows!
More later as I can!

Named for its winter haunts, the Surfbird (Calidris virgata) spends the winter and migration seasons on rocky coastlines pounded by the surf, often clambering about the rocks barely above the reach of the waves. In late spring, this stocky little sandpiper abandons the coast for its nesting grounds, high in the mountains in Yukon Territory and Alaska. Copyright © Kim Toews/All Rights Reserved.

Commonly named the Red-veined Darter
Body length: 38m to 40mm (1.5 to 1.6 inches)
Order: Odonata,
Flight period mainly: Late April to Early November.
Sympetrum fonscolombii is a common, widespread species. A resident (and more common) in the Mediterranean regions of Europe. Can also be found in the more northern regions of Europe, as far north as Britain and Sweden and over towards Poland in the East. But in these countries here it becomes much scarcer and will be rarely seen. It is most common in North Africa, the Middle East, and into south-western Asia including the Indian Subcontinent.
Habitat: The Red-veined Darter can be found in a large range of habitats, although preferring warm still waters, these often being open and shallow. It can also be found in ponds, lakes, marshes, coastal lagoons and slow flowing rivers.
Males are notably territorial and will often be seen observing on a exposed perch.
After copulation a pair can often be seen flying in tandem, with the female dipping her abdomen into the water depositing her eggs. The eggs and larvae develop within a few months and S. fonscolombii unlike most other European dragonflies has more than one generation a year. Some larvae will overwinter.
This species is similar to other Sympetrum species, especially Crocothemis Erythraea; as both males being bright red in overall appearance, closer inspection will give a positive identification especially as that species has no black on its face and legs.
Females have an ochre yellow abdomen. Immature males can be mistaken for females but often have more red and a single line on each side of the abdomen.
The name Cape Disappointment comes from British explorer John Meares, who named it in 1788 after he mistakenly thought the mouth of the Columbia River was a bay. The bar has sunk over 2,000 large ships and is often called the graveyard of the Pacific. The 53 foot tall lighthouse was constructed in 1856. It was electrified in 1927 and automated in 1937. Another house was built to enable the Coast Guard to monitor ship traffic. Life saving efforts begun in the 1870's by the light keepers led to the establishment of a Coast Guard base.

Thank you for looking at my images. I appreciate it.
The genus name is derived from the Greek words τρεῖς, treis, meaning 'three' and μείζων, meizon, meaning 'greater', referring to the outer three tepals being much larger than the inner three.

In German, the name of the wren is "Zaunkönig", roughly King of the Fence. In this picture, that name seems to be well-deserved as this young wren still head a light feather crown. In a book about the history of German bird names by Suolahti (1909), the author describes an old tale where all the birds wanted to crown the one amongst them which can fly the highest. The eagle stepped up and flew high and higher... but on its back, a small little bird rode up into the air with him and at the highest point flew just a tiny bit higher. To the Eagle's dismay, that little bird received the "King" name. The author assumes that the bird in the tale was a gold- or firecrest, which today still carries the genus name Regulus for "little king". In some German-speaking regions the more often seen and admired wren received the "King" name over time with early mentions already in the 15th century. Interestingly it replaced the Old-German name wrendo, which is very similar to it's English name.
Scammonden
The full name of the church is Saint Bartholomew West Scammonden and Dean Head.
This site has been a place of worship since 1615. According to records this is the 3rd church to be built here. The severe Pennine weather took its toll on the first two, which I guess fell down, the present church was built in 1865. As with the previous buildings this one has suffered over the years because of the weather. A small group of dedicated parishioners kept the Church going along with the Church School next door. Both were still in use when the M62 motorway project started in the early 60’s. The geologists working for the contractors suggested that the church and school would become unstable and the foundations undermined once the dam was full. The result was that the school was closed in 1970 and a notice was put on the Church door stating that anyone entering did so at their own risk. The geologists were wrong, the Church still stands and is in regular use, the school which is hidden by the trees, is now a private house.
Extensive restoration work, funded by local people and English Heritage has taken place over the past few years. The work was carried out because of weather damage, nothing to do with its close proximity to the reservoir.
I did zoom in to take a closer photo of the church, but this one with the reservoir in the shot looked much better.
Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

These are quick birds to try and photograph as they rarely stay still for more than a second. These little birds are always so beautiful to see in the bush.

But the name has some sinister history:-
The firework is named after Saint Catherine of Alexandria who, according to Christian tradition, was condemned to death by “breaking on the wheel”.
The breaking wheel or execution wheel, also known as the Catherine wheel or simply the Wheel, was a torture method used for public execution primarily in Europe from antiquity through the Middle Ages into the early modern period by breaking the bones of a criminal.
The primary goal of the first act was the agonizing mutilation of the body, not death.
The rest is pretty grizzly - but if you are interested - - -

The name Talkin comes from the Celtic name 'Talcan' which means brow of a hill. Tarn or 'Tjorn' is Norse for small teardrop lake.
Talkin Tarn was formed by the force of glaciers 10,000 years ago. The ice carved the landscape leaving the natural bowl which filled with water as the glaciers melted. The tarn is constantly topped up by natural freshwater springs which bubble up from below
