ℹ️Info

The Little Friarbird is actually a relatively large honeyeater but it is called little due to its small size compared to other friarbirds. Also, unlike them, it lacks a horn on its bill. It is grey-brown with a bluish grey facian skin mask. The specimen here has some yellow feathers on its throat and shoulders which means it is a juvenile.

.

Little Friarbirds spend most of their time in treetops feeding on a varied diet of nectar, fruit, worms, and occasionally flowers and seeds.

Back to the farm we stayed on in Oxfordshire, I went out around the farm around sunset time each evening to see what I could find to shot, I spotted this horse all wrapped up against flies in a field and decided I had to make it a foreground subject for the lovely sky that was unfolding.

I thought of a title as soon as I saw the horse and of course the song was done by a band called America as I recall, now I can`t get that song out of my head.

I thought I'd be Corze for the day.

Shot through the heart

And you're to blame

Darlin', you give love a bad name

Here's a before

Aptly named after Mount Potolaka, the sacred mountain abode of the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Avalokiteshvara, the Potala Palace has been identified in different ages as the residence of Tibet`s two illustrious and kingly emanations of Avalokiteshvara - Songtsen Gampo during the seventh century and the Fifth Dalai Lama during the 17th century. The building which towers above the city of Lhasa rises from the slopes of Mount Marpori, for which reason it is known locally as Tse Podrang "Summit Palace". The outer section, known as the White Palace has functioned as the traditional seat of government and the winter residence of the Dalai Lamas, while the inner section known as the Red Palace contains outstanding temples and the reliquary tombs of eight past Dalai Lamas. In terms of global perception, it is this relic of Tibet`s past, present, and future national aspiration which, more than any other, symbolizes the country of Tibet, like the great wall of China “Great Firewall of China” or the Vatican in Italy.

This 13-storeyed edifice was among the world`s tallest buildings prior to the advent of the 20th-century skyscraper, and undoubtedly the grandest building in Tibet.

The interior area of the 13-storeyed Potala Palace is 130.000 sq m. The building is 118 m high, 366 m from east to west, and 335 m from north to south. There are 1000 rooms housing approximately 200.000 images.

Traditinally the chapels of the Potala Palace were only open to the public on set days such as the fourth day of the sixth lunar month, and in the fourth lunar month. Now, in the absence of the Dalai Lama, it has the air of a (dead) museum, and is accessible throughout the week.

Hints:

-It's the national bird of both Pakistan and Iraq.

-It was originally brought to America, as a game bird, in 1893.

-This bird was seen, along with a couple siblings, sneaking through the brush in a rocky section of Horse Heaven Hills, Washington.

I would have had no idea what this was, except it was following its mother around.

The name come's from a famous painting and a Tv series, He looks so majestic with his head held high.

Monarch of the Glen is a British drama television series produced by Ecosse Films for BBC Scotland and broadcast on BBC One for seven series between February 2000 and October 2005 with 64 episodes in total.

The first five series of Monarch of the Glen told the story of young restaurateur Archie MacDonald trying to restore his childhood home in the Scottish Highlands, starring Alastair Mackenzie, Richard Briers, Susan Hampshire, and Dawn Steele, whilst the final two series of the show focused on new Laird Paul Bowman trying to modernise the estate, primarily starring Lloyd Owen, Tom Baker, Alexander Morton and Susan Hampshire.

The series is loosely based on Sir Compton Mackenzie's Highland Novels, which are set in the same location but in the 1930s and 1940s. The first book in that series is called The Monarch of the Glen, which was a reference to the famous painting of the same name by Landseer.

The series was created by Michael Chaplin and produced by Nick Pitt, Paddy Higson, Jeremy Gwilt, Stephen Garwood, and Rob Bullock. The show saw many directors, most notably Edward Bennett, Richard Signy, Rick Stroud, and Robert Knights; and many writers including Chaplin, Niall Leonard, John Martin Johnson, Leslie Stewart, and Jeremy Front. Filming took between six and eight months per series in the Badenoch and Strathspey area of the Scottish Highlands, in particular at Ardverikie House, which was the location for the fictional "Glenbogle House"

Another named storm passing across the UK today - as Storm Franklin hit the harbour at Newhaven. Very overcast, the the raw photos were very low in contrast, so processing in mono was my choice of edit.

Boulders Beach is a sheltered beach made up of inlets between granite boulders, from which the name originated. It is located on the Cape Peninsula, in Simon's Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is also commonly known as Boulders Bay. It is a popular tourist spot because of a colony of African penguins which settled there in 1982. Boulders Beach forms part of the Table Mountain National Park.

These African penguins are only found on the coastlines of Southern Africa (South Africa and Namibia). These penguins are currently endangered. As a result, the penguins are under the protection of the Cape Nature Conservation.

Although set in a residential area, it is one of the few sites where this vulnerable bird (Spheniscus demersus) can be observed at close range, wandering freely in a protected natural environment. From just two breeding pairs in 1982, the penguin colony has grown to about 3000 birds in recent years. This is partly due to the prohibition of commercial pelagic trawling in False Bay, which has increased the supply of sardines and anchovies, which form part of the penguins' diet. as well as the help from former SANDF naval officer, Van the Penguin Man

Bordered mainly by indigenous bush above the high-water mark on the one side, and the clear water of False Bay on the other, the area comprises several small sheltered bays, partially enclosed by granite boulders that are 540 million years old.

The most popular recreational spot is Boulders Beach, but the penguins are best viewed from Foxy Beach, where newly constructed boardwalks take visitors to within a few metres of the birds. It is also a famous swimming beach, although people are restricted to beaches adjacent to the penguin colony.

The name Cape Disappointment comes from British explorer John Meares, who named it in 1788 after he mistakenly thought the mouth of the Columbia River was a bay. The bar has sunk over 2,000 large ships and is often called the graveyard of the Pacific. The 53 foot tall lighthouse was constructed in 1856. It was electrified in 1927 and automated in 1937. Another house was built to enable the Coast Guard to monitor ship traffic. Life saving efforts begun in the 1870's by the light keepers led to the establishment of a Coast Guard base.
