After restoration work on Lincoln castle walls, there is now a new attraction for children of all ages. Bursting through the walls of Cobb Hall Tower is Lucy the Dragon, who periodically breathes smoke and rumbles.
She was made by the Prehistoric Store www.theprehistoricstore.com/pages/the-making-of-lucy-the-..., and installed in March 2022, her head alone is 4.2m long with the horns and weighs around 140kg.
She is named after Lucy Tower within the castle.
It wasn't just coloured lights they were projecting on to the kelpies: sometimes it was moving patterns like these.
This type of harpy has the task of delivering spirits from the dead to the new born. Because she travels between the world of the living and of the dead, she can deliver messages. Little scrolls fit into the toy.

Up to 2006, St Thomas church in Mellor was part of Glossop parish in the Diocese of Derby. It's now in the Diocese of Chester. The tower is C15th, but the rest of the church is C18th when it was partly rebuilt.
A Saxon church would have stood here and the font is all that remains of it. It is inscribed with figures, including a horse and rider and a creature with its tail in it mouth. At some stage a tap has been inserted to allow the draining of water following baptisms.
The much-feared Hodag!
From Wikipedia:
"In American folklore, the hodag is a fearsome critter resembling a large bull-horned carnivore with a row of thick curved spines down its back. The hodag was said to be born from the ashes of cremated oxen, as the incarnation of the accumulation of abuse the animals had suffered at the hands of their masters. The history of the hodag is strongly tied to the City of Rhinelander where it was claimed to have been discovered. The hodag has figured prominently in early Paul Bunyan stories.
"The hodag became the official symbol of Rhinelander, Wisconsin. It is the mascot of Rhinelander High School, and lends its name to numerous Rhinelander area businesses and organizations, including the annual music festival, Hodag Country Festival. The city of Rhinelander's web site calls Rhinelander "The Home of the Hodag". A larger-than-life fiberglass sculpture of a hodag, created by a local artist] resides on the grounds of the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce where it draws thousands of visitors each year. Rhinelander Ice Arena houses two hodags, one a full body creature just inside the entrance, and the other one an oversized head that blows smoke and has red eyes that light up, located in the corner just off the ice and which was created by the same artist who designed and built the Chamber Hodag."

St Helen's church at Gateley has some remaining Saxon masonry, but the chancel was rebuilt in 1866.
Some of the pews have carved tracery backs and carved bench ends. Although these have been dated to 1602, it's believed they could be even older due to their mutilation. This creature has wings, so could be a dragon.
