"The Hypsizygus tessellatus or shimeji is an edible mushroom native to East Asia. Buna shimeji is cultivated locally in Europe, North America and Australia and sold fresh in markets." Taken from Wikipedia.
I think I'm right in saying that these are Bunapi shimeji. At least two years ago, I noticed a small container of these at Safeway, my grocery store, but felt they were a litttle too expensive to buy, just to photograph. Then on 15 April 2013, I noticed that Safeway had finally got another package of them lying on the shelf amongst all the more usual mushrooms. Not expensive at all, so here they are, in macro size, lol! Apologies to the first few people who commented on this image - they may have thought I'd walked for hours in some dark forest to find these! Needless to say, this is a macro photo. And, no, I didn't eat them : )

I am not motivated to cook for myself.....rather, I cook for my animals.....and by definition, that puts me in THE OLDER GENERATION.
On the Silestone counter tops I have arrayed three of my favorite small appliances......the Aroma rice cooker, the Cuisinart slow cooker, and above them the awesome Breville toaster oven--my oven of choice for smaller dishes. (I love my Bertazzoni gas range, but seldom use its oven....I could be happy with a gas stovetop, and a separate oven.)
The Silestone is antibacterial, and impermeable to stain or odors.
It does not require any maintenance, unlike granite or marble. I love the soft grayness of its color combined with my earthy yellow ochre walls, always sunny and inviting even of dark days.
Even though I am not much on cooking, the kitchen remains a pivotal center of my homemaking activities. I'm told my placement of the LG washer/dryer combo in the kitchen is a more European choice......the architect who drew the plans wanted a closet for the laundry stuff, but I insisted on it being located on an outside wall for easy venting, avoiding the humidity issues of our very humid Mobile environment.
i know the paint is flaking, but i swear i only put the currants next to it for a minute for the photo....
Three guesses what I was making for dinner on this day.

I thought I will also hop on the HBW bandwagon and enjoy the ride :)
Replaced the top one with the bottom one :)
My mother-in-law gave me this apron for my birthday; she found it in a junque shoppe in Prescott, AZ. The lady's skirt lifts and she is wearing matching undies and a rhinestone garter.
Happy mewin Monday from Mitzi. If you knew how small this basket really is...I keep my bills in it...I was surprised to see her wedged into it. Trying to stay warm, perhaps. -12 this morning...Brrrr...She has some cattitude here for sure!
While washing dishes today I got the idea for this image. This is my cutting board and these are water bubbles that formed when the water hit the laminate surface (no soap here).

This year airbrush and red.
Except for a few special pieces the tan is in the basement awaiting the return of autumn
My first attempt at homemade gluten free bread :) I didn't have the right size loaf pan, so it came out a little biscotti-like. Tasted pretty good, though!
i think this is the prettiest kitchen we've ever had..the view in just fantastic with all those tropical trees...i adore tropical trees..
From The Mac & Cheese Cookbook by Allison Arevalo & Erin Wade! I love mac & cheese. I love this cookbook. This recipe uses smoky cheddar cheese.
Bye-bye sunshine - hello colour, LOL! Definitely needed this shot of colour today - where is the sun hiding? This is just another moment of playing in my kitchen yesterday. A rare, "just about sharp enough" image to post, but I love the orange and blue together! I have several other abstracts to post sometime - please bear with me until/IF I ever get a tiny, table-top tripod to use when attempting supermacros, ha, ha. This is the sharpest of them, so really the others are more for the colour : ) Oh, guess I should just add that this is a tiny petal tip with a couple of water droplets. The white tip is almost translucent and sparkly.
Raitas provide a wonderfully cooling contrast to spicy foods.
1 cucumber, peeled and diced. (I prefer seedless)
2 cups plain yogurt.
1/4 cup coarsely chopped fresh cilantro.
1 tsp. minced garlic.
1 tsp. lightly toasted ground cumin seeds.
Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste. (I like to add a pinch of red chilli powder too)
For more, make the measurement double...for less make it half or according to your taste.
Method:
Whip yogurt along with some milk or water. Add salt, garlic, cumin seeds, pepper. Stir until smooth. Add diced cucumber, mix and enjoy :)
What can I say? There she sat, just waiting for her mirror image to be spotted!
It's actually a Serrano ham with a torch at each side - we need and keep a couple torches here, by the back door - it gets dark so early in the country at this time of year!
Anyway, in no way was this 'designed' ... I just spotted it this morning when getting ready to take Pup out for her first walk of the morning as I bent down to attach her lead!
I think that this china is 1930s but I'm not 100% sure. The painting is of pods of peas in a blue and white bowl. As I don't have a dining room in this house, all of my china collection is in the kitchen - not very practical.

ODC-Something You Enjoy Doing Often
I enjoy cooking/baking so it stands to reason that I'd enjoy spending time in my kitchen every day.
Recipe : www.theparisfeast.com/2017/01/pancake-omelet-envelope-poe...
I was sitting around down nothing, reading an already read short story by Edgar Allan Poe, when the idea to invent a weekend brunch recipe came upon me. Thus was born the dish POE, rather an acronym of Pancake Omelet Envelope.
