Craig, Trent and I had been playing with the idea of making our way to Stockton Beach for a sunset come astro.
We had the idea of starting our evening with some nice twilight foreground light and then shooting the stars into the night.
Things didn’t work out exactly as we had hoped.
There were some local fires which had filled the sky with a weird haze and a strong on-shore wind which was blowing in all kinds of damp sea mist.
With Inspire packed in the back of the 4WD I felt I had another creative tool ready to go but the afternoons forecasted 12km ‘breeze’ was more like a gust 35-40km gusty on-shore wind.
It was scary and hard but Inspire took off and flew out to sea for a birds eye view of this famous wreck (landing her in the back of the 4WD afterwards was a challenge onto its own).
This is the 2nd or 3rd time now my astro dreams over this location have been foiled and I’m beginning to think that my focus now needs to be a red-sky sunrise instead. Easy right ;)
View large and, as always, thanks for looking!
The old fishing vessel 'MV Dayspring' on the shores of Loch Torridon at Lower Diabaig.
Diabaig is a remote coastal fishing and crofting township in Wester Ross, in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland. Diabaig lies on the north shore of the sea loch of Loch Diabaig, an inlet off the north side of Loch Torridon.
The CalMac ferry MV Loch Striven sails past the Isle of Kerrera on it's way into Oban.
Built in 1986 and after spending 10 years at Largs, she spent 16 years on the Raasay crossing.
Since 2014, she has been stationed on the Oban - Lismore crossing.

Another image with a Canadian Coast Guard Helicopter overhead.
The following vessels are reported as being part of the response to the stricken vessel:
Canadian Coast Guard
CCGS Cape Calvert 47 Motor Lifeboat - Evacuated Crew
CCGS Cape Naden 47 MLB - Evacuated Crew
CCGS Captain Goddard M.S.M - Hero Class Patrol Vessel - Monitoring/Response
CCGS Atlantic Raven - Emergency Offshore Tow Vessel (under charter) - Monitoring/Response
Canadian Tug
Seaspan Raven - Direct support fire suppression
USA
Contracted by ships owners
Resolve Marine - Emergency response and salvage company
They appear to have contracted the following vessels which are on scene providing fire fighting.
MV Maersk Tender -Direct support fire suppression
MV Maersk Trader - Direct support fire suppression
Both built as Tug/Offshore Supply Vessel, which typically have excellent towing and fire fighting capabilities.
Without a doubt there very well may be omissions as I have gathered the information from public sources. Cheers

MV E Evangelia is a shipwrecked 7,355-gross register ton (GRT) refrigerated cargo ship at Costinești on the Black Sea coast of Romania. She was built in Northern Ireland in 1942 as the Empire ship Empire Strength, was operated by Blue Star Line from 1942 to 1961, was bought by Greek shipowners in 1965 and wrecked in 1968. The ship had four names in her career, having been renamed Saxon Star in 1946, Redbrook in 1961 and E Evangelia in 1965.
Thanks to Brian Travelling for more information about this shipwreck near Corpach in the Scottish Highlands. Behind the wreck you see the snowy summit of Ben Nevis.
Here his original description (please visit his pic & stream too!):
She has become known as, "The Corpach Wreck," however, her real name is MV Dayspring. She was built in 1975 and in her prime an excellent fishing vessel bringing mackerel and herring. She was renamed Golden Harvest by new owners and made her last voyage under her own power in 2001. She was left moored for several years at Kinlochleven Pier. Due to a raiser chain failure during a heavy storm she ran aground near the Corpach Sea Lock on the 8th December 2011 and has lain there ever since.
Taken last weekend in the blue hour on our 18th Anniversary roadtrip through Scotland. But regarding this I will post something separate today.

This is a battery powered ship. I wonder if there are Tesla Superchargers in the North Sea?
I think it looks like the Discovery One in "2001: A Space Odyssey".

Calmacs Caledonian Isles is seen here nearing Ardrossen with a tea time sailing from Brodick. The setting sun creates a fine glow as it dips behind the Goatfell range giving Mark and I an enhanced sense of anticipation for our hike over those hills the following day.
The MV Caledonian Isles was built for Calmac and entered service in 1993 and to date has earned its corn on this route only. Usually it completes five return sailings each day.
MV Balmoral tied up on the River Avon in Bristol, just by the Princes Street Bridge.
MV Balmoral is a vintage excursion ship owned by MV Balmoral Fund Ltd., a preservation charity. Her principal area of operation is the Bristol Channel, although she also operates day excursions to other parts of the UK; she is included on the National Historic Ships register as part of the National Historic Fleet.
Balmoral was built as a ferry by John I. Thornycroft & Company at Woolston in 1949, for the Southampton, Isle of Wight and South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Co. Limited. After many strange adventures, she has mainly been used for summer season excursions on the Bristol Channel since 1986.
M Shed is a museum in Bristol, England, located on Prince's Wharf beside the Floating Harbour in a dockside transit shed formerly occupied by Bristol Industrial Museum. The museum's name is derived from the way that the port identified each of its sheds. M Shed is home to displays of 3,000 Bristol artefacts and stories, showing Bristol's role in the slave trade and items on transport, people, and the arts.
