I was talking to someone recently about the Foxx Tone Machine in 'That Lady' by The Isley Brothers and we started talking about octave dividers in the context of how they sound with fuzz boxes. I mentioned this one that I've had for decades (BTW, it was already pretty much this beat-up when I got it), but I hadn't been able to find it since we moved to Florida. I happened across it last night in my storeroom and decided to snap a photo of it for reference. So here ya go. The top knob is "Mix" BTW. Sorry that label isn't visible.
Here's a thing that's actually kind of humorous. This is my old Lowepro camera bag. No camera stuff to keep in it right now. Sold most of my expensive camera gear to get this company off the ground. BTW, I lived in Santa Rosa when I bought this bag and back when Lowepro was a local company. I'm told they've moved production out of the country now, so this is kind of a relic from my past. Still got mud on it from me rolling down the hill at Bernal Heights (I used to call it, "Venereal Heights"). Never could get the mud to come off.
Er, anyway...old man stories get sidetracked sometimes. Heh...I've been putting my home-built, "keepers" in here and planning a new pedalboard...eventually.
The yellow one at the back on the right is an MXR Distortion+ with an OPA2134 opamp, which was a really good mod. Thank you, Lionel. To its left is an Expandora built with old-school cans. The green one all the way to the left is a Brassmaster clone. In the middle is a CE-2 chorus clone. The black pedal is a clone of a Demeter Compulator. The blue on this side is a Mutron III clone and finally the black one on this side is a Rat clone using a vintage Motorola opamp.
The gold pedal all the way to the right is one of the old 2-footswitch Catalinbread Galileo pedals, not something I built.
Not sure how I accumulated this many, "keepers."
I solved the double Mutron problem. I originally had a second set of LEDs that were kind of like VU meters for the Vactrols. While I was troubleshooting the noise I moved one of those around and the noise changed as I moved it. They were apparently acting like little antennae. I guess with just one board in the enclosure it was OK, but with a pair that particular pathway into the circuit was prone to picking up noise. So I removed those LEDs and covered the holes with the Volume cabochons. Problem solved.
So this will ship out today. Finally. I hate keeping people waiting. Cool pedal. Built for Anthony McEwan, former bassist for New Edition.
Phasers. Those Maxon PH-350 use photo-couplers, just like the Mutrons. If yer looking for a phaser, I highly recomend
Here is another small one finished today with some cool pedals on it. Vintage meets modern.
The signal chain is as follows: Interface--Boss TU-2---King Vox Wah--Octavio--Mutron V--Keeley Comp--KR Gypsy Fuzz--MI Crunch Box--Boss Metal Zone (Keeley mod)--EB Vol--Line 6 MM4 (Keeley mod)--Echo Park--interface.
The board is setup for stereo outs to two amps.

The Univox Uni-Tron 5 is a copy of the Mu-Tron III which was sold by Unicord. It's a REALLY COOL envelope filter. Funk-in-a-box.
Single mono into DOD 240, split 4 ways, through pedals to second DOD 240, mono going through Mutron Biphase, back to mixing console.
The signal chain is: Interface---KR Wah---MXR Dyna-comp---Mutron III---KR Megavibe---Big Muff---MXR Phase 90---Keeley Mod Boss DS-1---Boss FV 500L--T-Rex replica---Boss CE-1---Interface. The CE-1 is set up to run stereo to two amps with a Jensen ISO transfromer built in the interface.
I replaced to the two switches with these two. I tried finding a direct replacement but no-go. I had to run jumper wires from them because the original switches were board-mounted and the new switches didn't match.
A Mutron III-style circuit in an enclosure with a Blue Kryptonite finish.
It's funny how my personal aesthetic tastes shift. I'm in love with these mini-tophat knobs right now. Most mini knobs leave me with the sense that I was forced to use them because of space considerations, but these seem kind of elegant somehow. Not forced.
I'm also having some kind of thing with yellow LEDs right now. Dunno why.
Here they are in their glory. Good as new. The DRIVE switch selects the direction of the filter sweep and the RANGE selects the frequency range covered by the filter envelope.
Here's something kind of cool. It's a custom enclosure for a customer's double Mutron. He wants to put each pickup through a separate Mutron. Which is cool. At one point in the 70's I seem to remember Bootsy had three Mutrons going on the three pickups in his Star bass.
Anyway, I've had this enclosure for several days, but we've been having thunderstorms every day and I have that five-foot-long copper grounding stake in the tent, which is kind of a recipe for getting struck by lightning.
It seemed like it was going to be clear today, but we actually DID end up having another thunderstorm. It's raining right now. This place is so strange, I guess because we're so close to the water. I looked out the back door and saw rain POURING down in the guy's yard across my back fence. Took 2-3 minutes for the rain to reach my yard.
Luckily, I was done with this enclosure and that 2-3 minutes gave me enough time to shut everything down, bring the enclosure inside (it was still pretty hot...had to use an oven mitt) and zip up the tent.
So here it is; the custom enclosure for a double Mutron.
Off to the left behind it you can see four Vactrols for the build.
I also noticed one of the two battery clips was pretty crappy (Yes this runs on 18 volts) so I replaced both of them.

This prototype of a MuTron III clone was started on 1999.
It's an envelope-controlled filter for use with guitar, bass or keyboard.
