Eureka! This new EM Spectrum exhibit takes advantage of twin 4K UHD screens and all of the coding, user interface, graphic design, and content is entirely new.

For this exhibit, we developed custom software which allows visitors to view both terrestrial and celestial objects across different wavelengths. The exhibit runs on an Ideum 100” dual 4K UHD Pano multitouch table. All of the content was developed specifically for the application. Ideum conducted a multispectral photo shoot for terrestrial objects and helped collect the latest celestial images. We worked with Science World in Vancouver to find appropriate images for the exhibit and collaborated on the content and text descriptions.

The 8K EM spectrum imaging exhibit will debut in the Eureka! Gallery at Science World at Telus World of Science in Vancouver in late February 2015. You can learn more about the Pano 100” multitouch table or the EM Spectrum exhibiton the Ideum website.

Raise a glass to an innovative and refreshing approach to application development! Ideum's new Tangible Engine Media Creator makes it easy for designers with little or no programming experience to create nuanced and engaging mixed-reality applications using our proprietary object-recognition software.

When it's released this fall, the Media Creator will include New Mexico Beer Flight, a demo program illustrating creative options for building menus and windows and linking onscreen content with handheld objects. Placing glasses equipped with fiducial markers on the touch table calls up a fanciful history of New Mexico beers and ales, plus information on taste, ingredients, brewing processes, and food pairings. Having created a Tangible Engine-based wine tasting for JCB wines and a coffee tasting for Starbucks, a beer tasting seemed the perfect way to highlight the flexibility of the Media Creator. Programming has never been this straightforward, intuitive… or tasty!

The Tangible Engine Media Creator is a simple drag and drop application that allows anyone to author state-of-the-art interactive experiences using tangible objects. The Tangible Engine Media Creator also comes bundled with a full SDK to create more elaborate experiences through programming. Learn more at tangibleengine.com.

Ideum worked with Minnesota Historical Society to build an interactive exploring the changing landscape around the suburban Twin Cities throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries. Visitors can pan, zoom, and move through time on maps centered on well-known malls in the area.

Ideum designed and developed the application, and it runs on an Ideum Presenter 75 for which Minnesota Historical Society created a custom base. To learn more about Ideum's Creative Services, visit our website.

An interactive multitouch enabled Google map with KML overlays allows visitors to pan and zoom around the L.A. Basin while learning about the weather patterns, wind currents, geologic make-up, and vegetative patterns that have shaped the landscape of southern California.

A unique interface switches between English and Spanish, as participants toggle between visual overlays that highlight the fire, air, water, and geologic conditions of the basin. Thematic overlays illustrating phenomenon such as fire risk, water supply, Santa Ana wind patterns, and fault line distribution tell the story of a landscape shaped by a diverse set of influences. Geo-tagged photo and video content, managed by Flickr, is displayed across the map. Visitors can explore this content through the use of intuitive gestures, building the basins story through discovery. Flipping the images over reveals embedded metadata to assist the exhibit narrative.

Designed to run on Ideum's multitouch and multiuser table platform, this versatile exhibit allows several visitors to explore content simultaneously. Using multitouch gestures, users can scale, zoom, and pass virtual objects around the table. Title, author, and narrative information about each photograph can be viewed in context in English and Spanish, with the photos source tied visually to its location on the underling map.

The multitouch software was developed using GestureWorks, Adobe Flash, Google Maps, and KML. Content management is handled via Flickr. This versatile multiuser Google Maps Flickr mashup can be reconfigured for the display of other geographic locations.

The Platform 42 Drafting Table will be available in September 2015. Its multitouch screen is oriented at a classic 30-degree drafting table angle. This multitouch table model makes a great workstation or eye-catching display.

Ideum has collaborated with our partners to create a line of 42" multitouch tables and walls using a new type of projected capacitive touch technology. The new multitouch screens are built with silver nanowire, which has a fast response time and a high level of fidelity. Perhaps most importantly, this very fine silver mesh cannot be seen - so it doesn't interfere with the image on the screen. The hardware is tough enough to be used in the same public spaces as our larger tables, but small enough to be welcomed into homes.

Ideum's multitouch tables and walls are designed and built in the USA. To learn more about Ideum's hardware, visit our multitouch table and touch wall pages.

The idea for the exhibit was inspired by the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE competition, awarded in 2017, in which teams developed feasible medical “tricorders” like those used in the Star Trek television series. In the series, the tricorder was a handheld scanner that quickly gave Starfleet doctors clues about a patient’s illness or injury. At the time, the tricorder was nearly as fanciful as the warp engines of the Starship Enterprise.

The exhibit runs on a 65” Ideum Platform multitouch table. The experience includes three modules that engage visitors in different ways of learning about medical technology. In the first module, “Scan Yourself,” visitors use fingertip sensors to track their heart rate, skin temperature, and galvanic skin response. The second module, “Build a Medical Scanner,” invites visitors to design their own 3D diagnostic device to focus on specific health scenarios. At the last module, “Diagnosis,” two visitors become collaborating physicians to examine a patient with a mystery illness.
