It might have a bag or special holster of some kind, but I'm thinking a speedy cavalryman would prefer a long leather thong. Just bundle the whole device up pronto with a quick hitching-knot, reduce stress on the hinges and thumb-latches, hold all the sharp parts back in safety.
If you're a tough-guy cavalryman out in the field, maybe you just grab the thing. Note that the thumb-latch has to go between your fingers.

The celebrated Alox scales have reached a near cult status, thanks to their unique surface which is pleasing to both hand and eye.
