The Ghost Festival, also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival, or Yu Lan is a traditional Chinese festival and holiday celebrated by Chinese in many countries. In the Chinese calendar (a lunisolar calendar), the Ghost Festival is on the 15th night of the seventh month (14th in southern China).

In Chinese tradition, the fifteenth day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar is called Ghost Day and the seventh month in general is regarded as the Ghost Month (鬼月), in which ghosts and spirits, including those of the deceased ancestors, come out from the lower realm.

Distinct from both the Qingming Festival (in spring) and Chung Yeung Festival (in autumn) in which living descendants pay homage to their deceased ancestors, on Ghost Day, the deceased are believed to visit the living.

On the fifteenth day the realms of Heaven and Hell and the realm of the living are open and both Taoists and Buddhists would perform rituals to transmute and absolve the sufferings of the deceased. Intrinsic to the Ghost Month is ancestor worship, where traditionally the filial piety of descendants extends to their ancestors even after their deaths.

Activities during the month would include preparing ritualistic food offerings, burning incense, and burning joss paper, a papier-mâché form of material items such as clothes, gold and other fine goods for the visiting spirits of the ancestors

Day 283 [10-9-2016]

The start of new adventures. George, Alex, and I went out this afternoon on a new adventure. Finally bringing back what we had been doing over the summer. We headed to a new location that I had spotted a week ago and the rainy weather really made the location pop in my opinion. Since it was such a rainy and gross day we didn't do anything too crazy. We drove around, got some food, and that is about it. It was nice to be with these guys again as well as being able to make more plans for future outings. Things are only going to go up from here.

I can't wait to see what the next day brings!

An unrecorded Class E.464 electric locomotive arrives are Stresa with TN 2145, the 06:49 Domodossola - Milano Centrale service on Friday 30th August 2019.

A fairly ordinary railway photograph in my view, but I've shared it because it shows something of the remains of the former Stresa-Mottarone railway station that I mentioned in a previous offering. See the brickwork with stone dressings on the right, together with some surviving ornate metalwork. The electrified narrow gauge Stresa-Mottarone railway operated from 1911 to 1962, and ran between here and the summit of Mottarone (1,492m), some ten kilometres distant.

One thing we noticed were far more smokers on the streets than in London ...

Exploring abandoned places quickly becomes all consuming. Time and again I've found myself in the midst of a scene like this and suddenly all random thoughts are gone form my head. Instead I''m keenly focused on my surroundings, constantly mindful that one misplaced step could drive a nail through my foot, or cause me to tumble down an old well, or twist an ankle. Injury can come in many forms and with no warning. Jagged bits of rusty metal, broken glass, rotten timbers, collapsing walls, fallen tree branches, toxic substances, the list id endless. Not to mention critters...mosquitos, ticks, spiders, and probably infested with snakes, skunks, raccoons, and groundhogs. I'm simultaneously thrilling with the sense of discovery, seeing discarded items, and pondering what they were used for or how they wound up being here. And while all of this is happening, a part of my brain is sectioned off to compose shots, make camera and flash adjustments and pursue the creative aspect. There's only so much the brain can handle and many a time I return to my car totally oblivious to how much time has passed.

At first I wanted to delete the picture but then I noticed the little "special feature" in this picture.....a man and several hands....and the title was found (but strange because it's a man.. .sorry men *wink* - good good...exceptions prove the rule haha... but if you look closely you can solve the puzzle)

She should have passed on the 'weiner ' 9 months ago, just sayin'! LOL Must be uncomfortable to carry that baby bump around in this heat. I was sweating just looking at her. The mother's of today let it all hang out. You should of seen the looks she was getting from the old ladies...I found her to be a fascinating subject. Last one for awhile, have fun out there!

Thank you for clicking on my picture. Every thought (faves, comments) appreciated!

Good lights to all of you, fellows.

Sminthurides aquaticus.

This female just finished eating and has started grooming.

She is on a slope, her 3 right legs are engaged juggling the drop around, and a male is hanging in her antenna.

Pretty artistic.

I often knit or crochet while watching TV. Pup does not mind serving as a generic model though not all the clothes are for her.
