This multi-touch installation reveals how Max Planck Institutes collaborate with each other, and with their international partners.
For this visualization, we analysed data from SciVerse Scopus for over 94,000 publications over the last ten years. A dynamic network provides a high-level map of the Max Planck Institutes and their connections. The size of the institute icons represents the number of scientific publications, and the width of the connecting lines the number of jointly published papers between two institutes.
The map of Max Planck institutes on the right shows their respective locations, whereas the world map on the bottom shows the locations of external collaboration partners.
Based on the AWESOME instructions from ssandler.wordpress.com/MTmini/ this is the multi-touch system I built.
Here you can see the guts of the 6 year-old Dlink DSB-C300 Webcam bluetac'ed to the bottom of a wine glass box.

Ce travail est ancré dans une réflexion sur la perception, la diffusion, le traitement et la représentation de ces données.
Pour Dorkbot, Lionel présentera la version en cours de l’interface multi-touch développée pour Homeostatic avec le soutien d’iMAL.
Lionel Maes presents his work in progress “Homeostatic”; an interactive installation fed in real time by press agencies data flow. This specific flow constantly processed and/or streamed by the media, brings questions on the status of the information.
This work is part of a general reflection on the perception, streaming, processing and visualization of these data.
For this Dorkbot, Lionel will present his multi-touch interface (in progress) developed for Homeostatic, with the support of iMAL.

First foray into OS X. As a user of Windows (15 yrs) and Linux (7 yrs), I'm quite impressed. Especially with the multi-touch pad. :>
The electromagnetic spectrum multitouch, mulituser table exhibit is a digital representation of the EM spectrum from radio waves to gamma rays. A custom high-resolution, ultra-wide format multitouch table accommodates several visitors at once, as they can view images in different wavelengths.
The table has a 100″ surface and an 86″ viewable area with a super-wide 16:5 aspect ratio. The images change in real-time as they are moved across the table, allowing visitors to see how the object can be perceived differently in each wavelength of the EM spectrum.
I went and bought myself an early birthday present last night...thanks to Uncle Sam for sending my tax return back promptly.
I've been eyeing the MacBook Pro laptops for a while, and with the latest addition of a 2.5GHz processor, a hard drive capacity boost, and the multi-touch trackpad, I decided it was time to bite the bullet and pick one up. I've owned an Apple computer before (hey, I made it through college getting a degree in engineering with an Apple!), and my parents have had Macs for as long as I can remember, so I'm not a stranger to the brand.
So far it's a beautiful machine...I got it up and running in very little time - maybe 15 minutes from opening the box and plugging it in? I was up on the wireless network quite easily and installing Aperture 2 on the computer, too.
I love Apple. :)
Wayang Kulit (Shadow Puppets) is the best known from the Javanese puppetry traditions and can be used to describe any puppet theatre using flat leather puppets which cast shadows on to a screen. Wayang Kulit is an interactive application that I have designed and developed for my project in MA Design Interactive Media course. The project designed displays visual puppets and invites the user to interact with these puppets by using touch gestures and this creates an experience with direct manipulation of objects.
The project is aimed to create a theatrical user experience and represents a story as users interact with these puppets using a touch screen.
