The RENCI at Duke University Engagement Center includes a 13-foot x 5-foot multi-touch visualization wall that uses six HD projectors (two rows of three) for a combined resolution of 5760 x 2160 pixels. The display wall enables multiple users to simultaneously interact with their data and images by directly touching the wall. The wall is based on an innovative RENCI design that is fully scalable and applicable to non-flat surfaces. The system uses both Windows and Linux operating systems.

The Peace Hall
Detail: In hope that the peace negotiations would bear fruit: an extremely feminine stucco figure crowned with flowers.
The name of this room refers back to the “Aachen Peace” of 1748. The negotiations to end the Austrian War of Succession were originally meant to take place here, but because of hierarchical disputes the room was never used for this purpose. Four portraits of the participating envoys can be seen in the splendour of their original frames. In the barrel vaults of the end walls hang two masterpieces from the late Baroque era, painted by Marcantonio Franceschini around 1700: “Pan offering wool to Diana” (west wall) and “Alpheus and Arethusa“ (east wall). The wood panelling is by Jacques de Reux and dates from 1730. In the middle of the room there is a multi-touch table at which you can learn more about the “Aachen Peace”.

For this visualization, we analysed data from SciVerse Scopus for over 94,000 publications over the last ten years. A dynamic network provides a high-level map of the Max Planck Institutes and their connections. The size of the institute icons represents the number of scientific publications, and the width of the connecting lines the number of jointly published papers between two institutes.
The map of Max Planck institutes on the right shows their respective locations, whereas the world map on the bottom shows the locations of external collaboration partners.

I went and bought myself an early birthday present last night...thanks to Uncle Sam for sending my tax return back promptly.
I've been eyeing the MacBook Pro laptops for a while, and with the latest addition of a 2.5GHz processor, a hard drive capacity boost, and the multi-touch trackpad, I decided it was time to bite the bullet and pick one up. I've owned an Apple computer before (hey, I made it through college getting a degree in engineering with an Apple!), and my parents have had Macs for as long as I can remember, so I'm not a stranger to the brand.
So far it's a beautiful machine...I got it up and running in very little time - maybe 15 minutes from opening the box and plugging it in? I was up on the wireless network quite easily and installing Aperture 2 on the computer, too.
I love Apple. :)
Wayang Kulit (Shadow Puppets) is the best known from the Javanese puppetry traditions and can be used to describe any puppet theatre using flat leather puppets which cast shadows on to a screen. Wayang Kulit is an interactive application that I have designed and developed for my project in MA Design Interactive Media course. The project designed displays visual puppets and invites the user to interact with these puppets by using touch gestures and this creates an experience with direct manipulation of objects.
The project is aimed to create a theatrical user experience and represents a story as users interact with these puppets using a touch screen.
