Intel and Inwindow Outdoor have developed the latest advancement in digital signs, called “Experience Stations,” capable of interacting in a multitude of ways. On the hardware side, these state-of-the art units incorporate large-format 70-inch touchscreen displays to accept multi-touch inputs; near field communication (NFC) for two-way transactions with mobile devices; and 3D cameras so customers can precisely control the sign with gestures. When people approach, real-time analytics software determines their gender and age and subsequently plays targeted advertising based on the audience demographics; therefore, showing the right message to the right people at the right time.

Finally got my LunaTik iPod Nano watch band from way back when I first backed this ridiculously popular Kickstarter campaign. I probably won't be wearing it super often, at least not until Summer time when I won't be wearing long sleeves (because the headphone jack either points back towards your shoulder which would require the long sleeve to roll up a bit, or towards your hand which is a little uncomfortable). That said, I think it's a pretty sexy design, and I was really glad to support a local, Chicago-based, industrial design firm. Kudos to them on making a fantastic product!

Working with Hard Rock International’s crack technology, property-development and memorabilia teams, and our friends and software development partner Vertigo, Duncan/Channon designed three interfaces for the new flagship cafe on the Las Vegas Strip. These include two custom apps for Microsoft Surface – the multi-touch, multi-user, interactive tabletop – as well as a touch-based interface for the restaurant’s 38 booths (shown here), where guests can manipulate memorabilia, peruse merchandise and vote on what video plays next in the cafe.
