MSG-3 is planned for launch in July 2012 from Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana. MSG-3 is the third in a planned series of four satellites operated by Eumetsat, the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites. The satellites return highly detailed imagery of Europe, the North Atlantic and Africa every 15 minutes for use by meteorologists and national weather forecasters. MSG-3 has two secondary objectives in the areas of radiation and rescue. Shortly after liftoff from Kourou, French Guiana, MSG-3 will be injected into geostationary orbit at an altitude of 36000 km km over the equator.

About the 401st:

The 401st Army field Support Brigade provides Soldiers, Sailors, Airman, and Marines, the tools and resources necessary to complete the mission. If they shoot, drive it, fly it, wear it, eat it or communicate with it, the 401st helps provide it. The brigade assists coalition partners with many of their logistical and sustainment needs. The brigade also handles the responsible disposition of equipment in Afghanistan to support evolving missions. We are the single link between Warfighters in the field, and working through Army Sustainment Command, we leverage Army Materiel Command’s worldwide Materiel Enterprise to develop, deliver, and sustain materiel to ensure a dominant joint force for the U.S. and our Allies.

Army Reserve Master Sgt. Renee Hamilton, one of eight children of artistic parents, had paintings displayed in art galleries in Palm Beach, Fla., as a young girl. Throughout her life, she has remained in touch with the limelight by singing, modeling, dancing with a troupe in the Caribbean, appearing on Black Entertainment Television with other Soldiers and serving as a makeup artist. Hamilton daydreams about doing makeup for her mother, who died 12 years ago, and First Lady Michelle Obama. Hamilton first saw the U.S. Army Soldier Show in 1999 while in Basic Training at Fort Jackson, S.C. “I said then: ‘I will be a part of this one day, and at the right time,’” said Hamilton, 32. “This is the right time to contribute to such a great production and touch the lives of many. My initial interest was to do makeup alone … but I think being on stage as an entertainer really satisfies another interest deep within that I have not touched on in awhile. Maybe my current passion just brought me closer to my original love.” U.S. Army photo by Tim Hipps, IMCOM Public Affairs
