During my visit to the coast of Western Alentejo, I spotted this ship. MSC Jeonmin is a containerised (Cargo Hazard A - Major) vessel with a capacity of 9400 TEUs. It was built in China on 2016 and registered in Portugal. MSC stands for Mediterranean Shipping Corporation.

The MSC Magnifica is a passenger vessel sailing under the flag of Panama. It has an overall length of 293.8 meters and a width of 32.3 meters.
MSV Virtuosa design and features
MSC Virtuosa has a length of 331.3m, width of 43m, and weight of 181,541t. It has 19 decks and a passenger carrying capacity of 6,334.
MSC Virtuosa embarked on its maiden voyage from the port of Southampton, UK, in May 2021. It was the first cruise ship to depart from the UK after 14 months of voluntary halt of operations by the cruise industry following the onset of COVID-19 travel restrictions.
Early start and a ride down to the other local woods that border the Manchester Ship Canal on one side and industrial units on the other.
Not been here for a while and the intention was to fly the drone.
When I arrived this oil tanker, The Thun London was in view by a place called Mount Manisty which is the slag heap from the original canal cutting. A quick change of plans and this is the resulting shot.
After it had passed I still had enough time to fly the drone and checked the drone assist app. The area is in a Controlled Traffic Region ( CTR, ) and I couldn't remember if you are allowed to fly in a CTR so decided against it and made the mile or so ride home.
As it happens you can fly in a CTR. I also checked this ship and it was outbound for Amsterdam, which then got me checking oil pipelines, which then had me checking the entire European pipelines from Russia and Azerbaijan across Poland, The Czech Republic and Germany into Holland. I also checked the draught of this ship ( 6.5m ) and the depth of the canal at this point is 28 feet. So it's clearance from the bottom of the canal is only about the height of an average bloke. I then discovered the MSC is tidal up to Latchford near Warrington and ships of this size can only use the canal for a few hours either side of high tide.
All of which is fascinating to a pedant like me but probably inherently boring to most. And all of which I'd forgot and had to go trawling the internet to find the info out again before posting.
It's a long day when you take your exercise so early but worth it in the end.

MSC LORETTA
Portishead
LIVERPOOL >>> PORTBURY
IMO: 9230490 - Built 2002
Container ship - 303.92m x 40m
This was the biggest ship in terms of length that Portbury has ever had to handle. There certainly was quite a few people that turned out to see her come in.

With three hammerheads still loading the final few containers in, the MSC Eloane gets ready for what would end up becoming a evening departure from Long Beach, California, as it get ready to head back the Busan, South Korea (ROK). This is one of MSC newer visitors to the Port of Long Beach coming in at 1,312 feet long and capacity of 19,462 TEU, this Pegasus Class container ship is far larger any of the Sooho Class ships that Hanjin unloaded here in the past, this has resulted in some these ships only being loaded up to the height limit of the cranes.
Under the guide of Foss Maritime's Jamie Ann, MSC Orion starts to head out of the Port of Long Beach in the morning, as it leaves it's sister ships Branka and Livorno behind at TTI. From here Orion will slow steam up the California coast, as it waits for an opening in four days at the Port of Oakland to pick up a few more containers before heading across the Pacific.
Today we drive my eldest, Abbey, back to Bath University. It is her last year, her last term studying for her MSc Hons in Global Development and Sustainability. Abbey's dissertation is "Carbon Bio-absorption in a world of increasing atmospheric CO2 levels. Mitigation using oceanic algae" She will be a world changer. We will miss her greatly and we will not have her home until she has finished her dissertation X
