Mount Ararat (Turkish: Ağrı Dağı, see below for its other names and etymology) is a snow-capped, dormant volcanic cone in Turkey. It has two peaks: Greater Ararat (the highest peak in Turkey and the entire Armenian plateau with an elevation of 5,137 m or 16,854 ft) and Lesser Ararat (with an elevation of 3,896 m or 12,782 ft).

The Ararat massif is about 40 km (25 mi) in diameter. The Iran-Turkey boundary skirts east of Lesser Ararat, the lower peak of the Ararat massif. It was in this area that, by the Tehran Convention of 1932, a border change was made in Turkey's favour, allowing it to occupy the eastern flank of Lesser Ararat.

Ararat - The Bible says that Noah's ark landed on the mountains of Ararat. This does not refer to any specific mountain or peak, but rather a mountain range within the region of Ararat, which was the name of an ancient kingdom of Urartu.[6] Nonetheless, one particular tradition identifies the mountain as Mount Masis, the highest peak in the Armenian Highland, which is therefore called Mount Ararat. (As opposed to the Armenian and European tradition, Semitic tradition identifies the mountain as Judi Dagh located in Turkey near Cizre.) According to the medieval Armenian historian Moses of Khoren in his History of Armenia, the plain of Ayrarat (directly north of the mountain) got its name after King Ara the Handsome. Here the Assyrian Queen Semiramis is said to have lingered for a few days after the death of Ara. According to Thomson, the mountain is called Ararat (Armenian: Ô±Ö€Õ¡Ö€Õ¡Õ¿) corresponding to Ayrarat, the name of the province.

Mount Morgan

An attractive and unusual historic mining town.

Located 679 km north of Brisbane, 38 km west of Rockhampton and 240 m above sea-level, Mount Morgan must surely be the most charming mining town in Australia.

It was founded as a gold mining town in 1882, and over time the Mount Morgan Mine has produced gold, silver and copper.

Mining began at Mount Morgan in 1882 and has continued for over 100 years. The town was named after Frederick, Edwin (Ned) and Thomas Morgan who, on 22 July 1882, pegged out a goldmining lease on Ironstone Mountain (later renamed Mount Morgan).

Sadly, we could not stop there. My photos were taken from the car on by-pass through the main road.

The Fabulous Windyridge Garden. The garden is located at Mount Wilson.

Mount Wilson is uniquely different area of the Blue Mountains. It is most famous for its private gardens and fabulous trees. Distance from Sydney 124km.

Mount Wilson & Mount Irvine are uniquely different areas of the Blue Mountains. They are most famous for its private gardens and fabulous trees.

Mount Wilson & Mount Irvine also experiences high rainfall. Combine the rainfall with volcanic soils and you have a perfect formula for cool-climate gardens. Surveyed in 1868, Mount Wilson was named after John Bowie Wilson, the colonies Minister for Lands. To get to Mount Wilson take the turn off on the Bell’s Line of Road between Bell and Berambing. Gardens in Mount Wilson include Yengo Sculpture Gardens featuring Australia's first endangered wildlife reserve, Nooroo including a world famous wisteria collection, Sefton Cottage, Koonawarra, Cherry Cottage, Clairne, Windyridge, Wynsta, Linden, Merry Grath and the overwhelming Lindfield Park. Mount Wilson holds an annual Autumn Garden Festival during April and May each year.

Walks and picnic grounds are also very special in Mount Wilson. A beautiful location for a picnic is opposite 'The Cathedral of Ferns' - not to be missed. Back towards Bells Line of Road you will discover Bowens Creek Picnic Ground. Other places of interest include Wynne’s Rock Lookout, Du Faurs Rock, and Pheasants Cave.

The Republican National Convention 2012 was held in Tampa, Florida from August 27-29.

The convention had a rocky start in that Hurricane Issac, only a tropical storm while near Florida, caused the event organizers to play it cautious.

On Monday, August 27, the convention was formally called to order and then immediately put into recess until the next day. The hopes were the tropical storm would pass. It did.

The anticipated protestors never did develop. There were a few, but they were far out number by the photogs. They were extremely passive.

Law enforcement, 4000 strong, outnumbered everyone else.

I went to the RNC, on Tuesday, anticipating to photograph some protestors and hopefully their interaction with the police. My plan quickly fizzled . Instead I turned my camera to the cops.

To say the least, this was an impressive event.
