I'm not sure about the identification on this one so I'm just calling it the pretty orange moth. Photographed in Maryland

I really am hopeless when it comes to butterflies and moths. I have not idea which is which and certainly do not know the names of species.
Anyway, this poor thing was almost a gonna. I was walking along a path in the Gower, near Swansea - when something bright caught my eye and there was this wonderful creature lying in the sunshine on next stone I was about to put my foot on. Isn't it just gorgeous.

Although this was all about lines and symmetry when I took it, when I got it to Lr it became more about mood. I was surprised by the snow and totally unprepared, my winter/wet gear was in a box in the garage, some boy scout I am.... :) Anyway, by the end of the week Paradise Road will be the only one open, you can still go in the Carbon River entrance but that road doesn't exist anymore.
This moth is a new species for me. It apparently is named for the hook-like wingtips and arched wings. It ranges from 1 to 1.5 inches in length and is common in North America.

What looks like a moth on a bush beside Herberts Hole, taken on my walk around the ridges to the west of Chesham last week.
No idea what type it is! ID please?
The silver Y is a medium-sized moth with a wingspan of 30 to 45 mm. The wings are intricately patterned with various shades of brown and grey providing excellent camouflage. In the centre of each forewing there is a silver-coloured mark shaped like a letter Y or a Greek letter Gamma.

I was trimming the bushes early this morning when this moth fell from the bushes. At first I thought it was a plastic toy. Then it slowly began "waking up" from the chilly morning.

Clearwing Humingbird Moth at Springton Manor Farm Park In Chester County.
My photographs today show two very different 'hummingbirds' visiting the bee balm wildflower meadow at Springton. The vibrant red color on the wings shows that this moth is very recently hatched.
Atlas moth, also known as the "Snakehead moth" or the "Queen of the Moths," is one of the biggest moths in the world. You’ll find these giants in the tropical forests of India, China, and Malaysia. With their earthy-colored wings and snake-like patterns on the tips, they’re built to impress and scare off predators!
I found this moth over these beautiful pink flowers.
Ctenucha virginica is a moth of the family Erebidae. The wingspan ranges from 40–50 millimetres. The wing color varies from black to olive-brown. The body is a metallic blue-green. The head is yellow-orange, with feathery antennae. The caterpillar has multiple tufts of white and yellow hair. It undergoes metamorphosis in May–August.
Such a cool moth to watch buzzing around collecting nectar with their long proboscis ,they really look and act more like a hummingbird than a moth.
Thanks to all who comment or mark as a favorite it really is much appreciated
