this is basically straight out of the camera - very pleased w/ this one - bumped the saturation and texture slightly and then a slight burning on the mosquito herself to bring out the details - the ferns are golden right now and the lighting just set this one off
backyard capture in chesterfield
I’ll remember this shot for the number of mosquitos stings I received during the very short time I allowed myself to set the tripod plus the time of the exposure. Amazing !

This mosquito was lucky because my wife was not yet home when I took this photo. We rarely see mosquitos coming inside our house and when my wife see them, she wants them dead ASAP. The other day, there was a mosquito in the wall... I rapidly went to get my camera with the reversed lens but when my wife noticed that I´m gonna take a photo of the mosquito, she smacked it instantly!!
Have a nice day all Flickr friends!!!
Thanks for your time... really appreciate your views, comments and faves!

Upside down aquarium is placed in a puddle so that the opening is just about submerged. Air is sucked out so that the water can rise and fill the space. Rising sun is reflected from the puddle surface, where some aquatic insect just made some ripples.

With essentially normal snowpack in much of the Sierra Nevada this year, mosquitos will be thriving in vernal pools, waiting for us to arrive and feed them..
Last Friday an old colleague, he was my manager some time ago, invited me to go and see him fly so that I could take some picalillies of the event.
What you see is a deltawing and attached to is a Mosquito. The deltawing is from Italy and the Mosquito is from Sweden if I remember correctly. The Mosquito is a sleepingbag with an engine attached to it.
To take off, he starts running and simultaneously revvs the shit of that little engine. The wing does its thing and it lifts up and he's air airborne. Then he has to get his legs into the sleepingbag and zip up and retract the landing gear (two legs at the end). As far as he knows, he is the only one in the country who has one of these.
It's super cool. A man can fly, by himself!
As part of a service to the community, the MOSQUITO patrols beaches and parks, and dispenses sunscreen on hot, sunny days.
The mosquitoes were so bad I could've used a breath mask. In fact, at one point a bunch of them ganged up and tried to fly off with my camera when my back was turned. Good thing it was attached to my tripod!
getting in the spirit of Halloween, my friend tries out the idea of being a mosquito caught in a net.
The Culex Mosquito is one of the most common mosquito species in the UK and primarily feed on birds not humans. The Culex Mosquito generally have a life span of 10 – 14 days and are more likely to bite at dawn & dusk. The male culex mosquito only feed on nectar while the female requires a blood meal before she can lay her eggs. Females will find standing water to lay eggs, in urban environments they often lay eggs on tin cans, garden pots and rain battels. The Females can lay around 300 eggs in one go and these eggs take around 2 days to incubate before hatching.
Some interesting trivia about the culex mosquito species is that while it is not a primary disease spreader it has been known to spread the West Nile Virus, Filariasis & Encephalitis.

There was definitely a lot more than one but you can see a large one here exiting stage right. Worth it for the view.
A male mosquito drinking nectar from a flower. The males don't drink blood like the females do. Photographed in Maryland.

This one is from the same road trip as yesterday's pic, in the summer of '98. I spent a balmy late evening at the Star View drive in, on the western approach to Fallon, Nevada. Home to one of the largest flocks of mosquitoes I've ever encountered. In shorts. I was eaten alive in seconds, but managed to get a few shots off. Straight up full moon for 8-minutes, with a few passing trucks on Kodak 160T film. This screen was torn down many years ago. I don't think I've ever put this one online before.
Walking a lot today doing errands and opportunity to bring the camera along for handheld shots. Surprisingly after the deluge of rain that has crippled parts of the BC west coast, our part of the rain forest did not have the same experience, as can be seen in the tame water levels of the creek.
