Today it is as hot here as it was 2 weeks ago in Greetsiel and also the mosquitoes dance here in large numbers.

Have a good time anyway!

With reports from both TX and FL that domestic cases of malaria have been reported, I celebrate our backyard mosquito control. I believe this is a Blue Dasher (Pachydiplax longipennis) perched on the dried seed pods of a Dark columbine. Insect eyes are so intriguing.

From the archives....Fall colors along Mosquito Gulch near FairPlay, CO

mosi from scotland. not sure what species it is but its friend bit me twice

I’ve been experimenting with back button focus (BBF) on a Nikon D750. I’m only able to focus and recompose as long as I’m holding down the back button. But if I focus and then let go of the back button before recomposing, the shutter does not always “fire.” I’m getting closer but I still want to figure out how to focus with the back button and then let go of it while recompiling. Anyway, this is a photo I took while experimenting (and dodging mosquitos).

Seen up close, they look like aliens, but they are just two mosquito larvae that I photographed a few years ago with a ring flash and polarising filter. What fascinates me about macro photography is the details that become visible, which would otherwise remain hidden.
