I decided that I will start to post some older pictures that were never posted before. This one from May 2020, Moore state park in Paxton.

This old mill site is like stepping into the past. I can't recommend this state park in Paxton enough.

"Hill Arches" (1973), A sculpture by Henry Moore (1898-1986), bronze, Sculpture Garden, National Gallery of Australia (NGA), Canberra, ACT.

An incredibly organic sculpture by the renowned sculpture artist Henry Moore. It has been described as "two bodies in rhythmic movement, whose empty spaces are just as important as their shapes." Another gem in this small area north of the NGA.

Three piece sculpture (bronze) by Henry Moore, 1968/69. Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, Perry Green, Hertfordshire. 7Artisans manual lens; processed in Luminar and macOS High Sierra.

a quick trip to moore river and clear skies allowed me to shoot this lighthouse for the first time. it wasnt quite lined up as I would like but I was happy with the detail the 35mm lens allowed me to capture of the milkyway.

Henry Moore's Large Reclining Figure (1984); Perry Green, Much Hadham, Hertfordshire (the place where the sculptor lived and had his studio). There is plenty of information on Henry Moore and this sculpture too. I just want to restrict myself to giving an account of my inner landscape when approaching this sculpture and the topography around it. Using a short lens (Leica M8 plus Voigtlaender 35/1.4) I have to walk a long way towards the monument. I can see the figure of a reclining person (a woman) from far away. Through the pastures where the sheep are grazing. As if art and nature were undivided. As if approaching a sanctuary with animals under divine protection. There is an aura of sacredness, and I am perplexed whether the figure on the mount has a religious quality. Am I on a pilgrimage? The figure can't be "explained", it is impervious to my analysis. But this bronze figure cuts straight into my emotional underbelly, and makes me forget for a moment the clutter of institutional normality. An encounter. A conversation that was all the time within me, but me not listening.

A section of a large sculpture by Henry Moore, temporarily, I would think, deposited next to Moore's Maquette Studio (Perry Green, Much Hadham, Hertfordshire). I have not yet found out the title of the sculpture and when it was made. Perhaps you can help? Fuji X-E2.

I can't recommend Moore state park in Paxton enough, even it's a bit out of the way. The old mill site is impressive, as is the "waterfall". When the azaleas bloom, this place must be even more special.

Works best when viewed in large.

For the art lovers amongst us...

“The secret of life is to have a task, something you devote your entire life to, something you bring everything to, every minute of the day for the rest of your life. And the most important thing is, it must be something you cannot possibly do.”

For once the working being held to time worked in our favour, finding a nice gap in the cloud!

Yesterday, on the vernal equinox, we took a little walk uptown. I took this photo of the Moore House from the parking lot. I liked how town hall emerged from the background. I removed some wires and signage.

"Moore House was originally built by the Moore family around 1850 as a home, and later was turned into a general store. The family was one of the first to settle in Carleton Place. The log structure was retrofitted and moved to its present location in the spring of 2007." (www.captroybrown.ca/moorehouse.html)

If you click the above link, there is a photo of the house being moved to its present location.

Abandoned farmhouse not far from Seymour, in northern Texas. I stopped to take photos and a farmer happened by and told me this house was built in the 1920s or 30s by a family named Moore ("Mower" is how he pronounced it). Due to drought, the family could not farm profitably and ended up leaving in the 40s. The house has sat abandoned for decades. The wood is rotting away but the brickwork keeps the Moore's onetime home still standing proud.

Coronavirus hero Captain Tom Moore has been promoted to Colonel on his 100th birthday. The veteran has raised over 30 million pounds for the NHS. His big day will also be marked with a flypast by a Spitfire and a Hurricane over his Bedfordshire home.

Happy 100th birthday Colonel Tom. You are an inspiration and epitomise everything that is, a British soldier 🇬🇧

Henry Moore's bronze sculpture "Reclining Mother and Child" (1975/76). Leica M8, Voigtlaender 35/1.4. Throughout his life, Moore had returned to this subject which has been, of course, also a central part of Christian iconography. In the case of Moore's artwork, however, there is no "holy family". The father is conspicuous by his absence.

Moore Cove Falls, NC276 Brevard.

It's rare that I include anyone in my photos - usually I try hard to keep them out - but sometimes they help give a sense of scale. The flow at Moore Cove was so low and the stream so hard to pick up that I thought it a good idea to include someone in the shot. A big thank you to this kind lady for agreeing to pose for a complete stranger.
