KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’. 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 16.62 g 1), Mesembria, struck in the time of Mithridates VI, c. 90-early 60s BC. Head of Herakles in lion skin headdress to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on high-backed throne, holding eagle in his right hand and long scepter in his left; to left, monogram of ΠΑΥ above helmet; below throne, monogram of ΠΥ. Price 1106. With a remarkably bold and attractive head on the obverse. Reverse slightly double struck. Good extremely fine.
From the Mieza collection, ex Tkalec 7 May 2006, 41.
The head of Herakles on the obverse of this coin clearly has the features of an idealized Mithridates VI, as can be seen when it is compared to the Pontic king’s own tetradrachms. The need for large amounts of silver and gold coins to pay for mercenaries during the Mithridatic Wars lead to an enormous amount of coinage - in the style of Alexander (silver) and Lysimachos (gold) since this was what the Celtic and Balkan soldiers preferred.

From an old, out-of-print french book on monogram embroidery. I can't even remember where I got this book. I must have picked it up when in Paris in the 1990s.
In all the years I have had this exquisite doll, I have only once taken photos of her. Happy that a ballgown theme on DD made me take her out again. I'm also testing out the new photo box/tent, and it was much fun. Life Ball, to me, is still as stunning as I found her more than a decade ago. And although her hands have a sweaty/melty feeling to them, the rest of her has stayed pristine.

The monogram for Our Lady was a popular pilgrim's badge worn by those who had visited her shrines. Tomorrow is the feast of Our Lady of Walsingham and this monogram is the badge used by the Shrine there.

Faceted rondelles of Garnet and the letter J.
This necklace can of course be made in any stone and with any letter.
These models come from a 1862 French magazine called 'journal des demoiselles' (more or less 'the young lady's journal', in English). Different monograms and a bedlinen border. The magazine was aimed at well-to-do young girls from the French bourgeoisie and mixed needlecraft, fashion plates and sentimental (though strictly respecting catholic tutorship -censorship ?-) short stories. It is quite clear that the needlecraft average skills at the time were MUCH HIGHER than what they are nowadays ;)
A weird hybrid of a model. The box says a turbo Firebird. The instructions say its a Trans am. You get the wheels that were seen on the early turbo 79-81 models, but the hood of non turbo. Not sure about the solid roof to. Also came with lake pipes.
So I chopped off the lake pipes and found some 78 Snowflake wheels to make it definite non turbo 79.
Sadly the decals were rubbish. The moment they left the paper they shrunk.and wilted up. So had to use 78 trans am decals. Also scratch built some tail pipes.
Monogram cookies I made for a friend's wedding shower. The bridal couples first names and new last name all begin with T's. I used hand cut stencils for the letters and hand piped to other details.
