One of many monitor lizards on Tioman. This one was crawling around our bungalow looking for something to eat in the grass.
FASILIS is currently a pilot project with the aim to develop a sustainable transnational facility sharing service. To shape this service, FASILIS has already started thinking of the future even though the second call is still open!
We have had an inspiring first meeting with the FASILIS monitoring last week in Esslingen, Germany. We received valuable insights and were asked to provide the board with additional information at the next meeting. In the coming months the team will work towards a future-proof FASILIS and we aim to continue after the project closes in October 2011.
The FASILIS monitoring board consists of 6 members, one representative from each participating region. They have been selected based on their links with regional policy frameworks and their in-depth knowledge of the regional life science clusters.
The FASILIS monitoring board members are: Miranda Wijnstekers (North-Brabant), Michael Broadbent (South-East England), Nancy de Vries (East Netherlands), Petra Püchner (STERN region), Jean-Paul Gérard (Walloon), Morten Jensen (BioPeople.
Located just 100 km east of ReykjavÃk at Hvolsvöllur, the new Lava Centre sits between five of Iceland's greatest volcanos. The main exhibition of the Centre reveals the epic forces of nature that shape our planet and created Iceland, and in addition visitors get a crash-course in Volcanology while experiencing the extreme forces associated with volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.

Here's a shot of the back of the monitor. If you can't get a tight hold, add a washer between the mount and the monitor. I prefer rubber or fiber washers.

Very heavy ,
I have my Dell Monitor mounted to the wall with an Ikea mount -- but what a perfect place to hide a USB hub.
Belkin 4 Port USB hub (powered) also feeding into the Monitor itself with also has 4 USB ports. Two ports on the monitor allow easy access to plug in things like USB flash drives, etc. Two white cords hang down onto my desks -- the ends having MiniUSB and an iPod connection.
The Belkin is connected to my Webcam, my USB-to-PS2 Controller adapter and an external USB drive enclosure, all of which sit on the shelf above the monitor.
Bengal Monitor lizards (Varanus bengalensis) for sale at the Warora market. I hesitated to post these photos because of the obvious cruelty depicted, but in the end I decided to post them so the information is available. These monitors are kept at bay in a way I haven't seen before – even after searching on the web – though doubtless it is common. Their whiplike tails are tied around their necks, and their lower jaws are broken, ?removed, and folded into their mouths. I am not sure why this is done, but I am aware that the Bengal Monitor (a.k.a. bis-cobra; goh-sámp) has long been thought to be dangerous by locals. See for instance this somewhat elitist paper in Nature from 1879: www.nature.com/nature/journal/v20/n519/abs/020553a0.html [June 2004]

CPI’s Valvealert™ provides a total solution that encompasses data collection & analysis, alert detection & triggering and report generation with the operation of reciprocating compressors. Valvealert™ is a technology that records an acoustic emission (AE) and temperature fingerprint for the operation of each valve (baseline). Data is analyzed against the baselines to determine whether anomalies with the operation of the compressor are present. The Valvealert™ records data non-intrusively from quick fit connectors that are bonded to the surface of each valve plate cover. The data is uploaded to a PC or laptop where the data is automatically analyzed and the necessary alerts are triggered. This provides a very versatile and flexible way of monitoring compressors.
