Joaquín Sorolla Bastida ( Valencia , February 27, 1863 - Cercedilla , August 10, 1923 ) Under the tent, the beach of Zarautz (1910) oil on canvas 99 x 106 cm. - (Madrid, Sorolla Museum) - Palazo reale Milan
After the first stop at the National Gallery in London, the most comprehensive exhibition of Joaquín Sorolla's paintings outside Spain continues in Milan.
Exhibition Joaquín Sorolla Painter of Light - Palazzo Reale Milan
After the first stop at the National Gallery in London, the most comprehensive exhibition of Joaquín Sorolla's paintings outside Spain continues in Milan.
Little known to the Italian public, Sorolla was one of the greatest representatives of modern Iberian painting at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, making a major contribution to its renewal and opening it up to the climate of the Belle Époque.
Among the most beloved and appreciated artists of his time for both his great technical quality and his humble and benevolent character, Joaquín Sorolla achieved a fame that soon transcended national borders, participating in and winning prestigious prizes at major international events. However, it was the coveted Grand Prix, obtained at the renowned Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900, that launched his painting of light and color permanently on the international scene. In London in 1908 he was acclaimed as "the world's greatest living painter."
Raphael Sanzio (Urbino, March 28 or April 6, 1483 - Rome, April 6, 1520) - Madonna of the Tent (1513-1514) - oil on poplar panel 65.7 x 51.3 cm. - Alte Pinakothek, Munich
The red and blue of Mary's dress and cloak and the green of the curtain form a strong shade of color on which the heroic body of the Child Jesus and the classically ideal profile of the Blessed Mother shine. Artfully interwoven, the very picturesquely defined figures fit perfectly into the field of the image. Raphael's reception of Michelangelo's ceiling frescoes in the Sistine Chapel reveals their monumentality. The devotional painting, made about six to seven years after the 'Madonna Tempi,' shows how confidently Raphael continued to develop his pictorial art in Rome.

(Wikipedia).

Giotto (Giotto di Bondone - Colle di Vespignano-Vicchio, c. 1267 - Florence, Jan. 8, 1337) Polyptych of Bologna (c. 1330-1334) - Tempera and gold on panel size 146.5×217 cm. - National Picture Gallery of Bologna, Bologna.
The polyptych, made by Giotto and his workshop probably in Florence, is one of three works signed by the artist: the signature in gold letters appears visible on the throne step.
The painting was originally intended for the altar of the Cappella Magna of the Apostolic Palace, which was built in Bologna, near what is now Porta Galliera, to house the Pope returning from Avignon and was destroyed shortly thereafter.
It is a masterpiece of refinement and Giotto, the undisputed protagonist of 14th-century Italian art, shows, together with his collaborators, all his talent in the rendering of details, the elegance of the ornamentation and the play of alternating colors, creating a work destined to honor the Pope's authority and to have a profound effect on the artistic life of Bologna.
The saints, identified by the inscriptions below, occupy the individual panels. In the center the Virgin, imposing and massive, is seated on a throne of light-colored marbles structured to suggest the idea of spatial depth. With her is the Child, who seeks her attention by brushing her chin, clinging to her neckline and kicking with his little feet.
In the cusp above the throne is God the Father holding the starry orb and keys.
On the left are Archangel Gabriel, shown in profile, and St. Peter, holding the keys and crosier. On the right is Michael, the red-winged warrior Archangel fighting the devil, depicted as a multi-headed monstrous figure; then St. Paul, with book and sword.
At the bottom, from the perfectly circular oculi of the predella, half-length figures appear alongside the Christ of the Passion placed in the center: from the left, St. John the Baptist, Our Lady, St. John the Evangelist, and Mary Magdalene.
Pietro Longhi (Pietro Falca - Venice, November 15, 1701 - Venice, May 8, 1785) - Portrait of the Giant Magrat (second half of the 18th century) - oil on canvas 61 x 50 cm - Museo del Settecento Veneziano Ca' Rezzonico, Venice
Born in Venice on November 15, 1701. After an experience in the workshop of Antonio Balestra, is in Bologna, where he knew the work of Giuseppe Maria Crespi that will become, in particular as regards the genre painting, fundamental for the subsequent developments of his career.
Until 1734 he devoted himself to a production of "historical" character, but from the end of the thirties he decided to change course, addressing himself almost exclusively to the painting of costumes that will make him famous not only within the borders of the Serenissima. They are scenes of small format dedicated at first, on the example of crespiano, the analytical description and accurate life of the peasants and the poor Venetians, then, since the forties, the life of Venetians, outside and inside the palaces. The success is extraordinary, as evidenced by the high-sounding names of his aristocratic clients: from Sagredo to Mocenigo, from Grimani to Querini to Pisani and many others; in practice, the elite of the families of ancient nobility, not excluding some "new nobles" - but especially new rich.

ENGLISH
Turning Torso is a neo-futurist residential skyscraper in Sweden and the tallest building in Scandinavia. Located in Malmö on the Swedish side of the Öresund strait, it was built and is owned by Swedish cooperative association HSB. It is regarded as the first twisted skyscraper in the world. The project was designed by Spanish architect, structural engineer, sculptor and painter Santiago Calatrava and officially opened on 27 August 2005. The tower reaches a height of 190 metres (623 ft) with 54 storeys and 147 apartments.
In August 2015, it was announced that the building was the winner of the 10 Year Award from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. It won the 2005 Gold Emporis Skyscraper Award. Turning Torso is based on a sculpture by Calatrava, called Twisting Torso, which is a white marble piece based on the form of a twisting human being. It is the first "twisting" tower. In 1999, HSB Malmö's former managing director, Johnny Örbäck, saw the sculpture in a brochure presenting Calatrava in connection with his contribution to the architectural competition for the Öresund Bridge. It was on this occasion that Örbäck was inspired to build HSB Turning Torso. Shortly afterwards he travelled to Zurich to meet Calatrava, and ask him to design a residential building based on the idea of a structure of twisting cubes.
This is a solid immobile building constructed in nine segments of five-story pentagons that twist relative to each other as it rises; the topmost segment is twisted 90 degrees clockwise with respect to the ground floor. Each floor consists of an irregular pentagonal shape rotating around the vertical core, which is supported by an exterior steel framework. The two bottom segments are intended as office space. Segments three to nine house 147 apartments.
Construction started in the summer of 2001. One reason for building Turning Torso was to re-establish a recognizable skyline for Malmö since the removal in 2002 of the Kockums Crane, which was located less than one kilometre (0.62 mi) from Turning Torso. The local politicians deemed it important for the inhabitants to have a new symbol for Malmö in lieu of the crane that had been used for shipbuilding and somewhat symbolised the city's blue collar roots. The construction of part of this building was featured on Discovery Channel Extreme Engineering TV programme which showed how a floor of the building was constructed. Prior to the construction of Turning Torso, the 86-metre (282 ft) Kronprinsen had been the city's tallest building.
The apartments were initially supposed to be sold, but insufficient interest resulted in the apartments being let. The owner has several times unsuccessfully tried to sell the building. The construction costs were almost double the estimate.
Floor 49 is home to the public observation deck while floors 50–52 contain a private club, meeting events, the reception, and the venue restaurant.
Floor 53 and 54 in the Turning Torso are conference floors booked and managed by Sky High Meetings. Since 2009 the owner, HSB, has decided to let the public visit these floors but only on special scheduled days, and pre-booking is required.

Yesterday was a sunny day so I decided to take a walk to the park and practice with my new lens. I'm not entirely satisfied with the result, I think I could get better sharpness, but to be the first time it's OK. I used the "auto" mode, because it is a bigger lens and I don't have experience using it. I didn't want shot in "manual" mode, and the final result were poor quality.
:)

Filippino Lippi (Prato, 1457 - Florence, 1504) - Apparition of Christ to the Madonna (1493) oil on panel 156.1 x 146.7 cm., - Alte Pinakothek, Munich
Filippino Lippi's panel is chronologically linked to his return to Florence after the frescoes in the Carafa Santa Maria sopra Minerva chapel in Rome. The composition is generally identified with the table that Vasari saw in San Francesco al Palco in Prato.
The scene takes place outside where Jesus, sent from the Eternal (depicted in heaven within a golden disk in the clouds with angels), appears to the kneeling Virgin. At the top, on the sides, the scene of an unusual Annunciation is depicted with the announcing Angel and the announced Virgin separated from the central divine representation. It is believed that this last, certainly singular, iconography was expressly requested by the client, to whom the monastery painted on the highest hill could be connected.
The two characters in the foreground are depicted in a solemn and majestic way, with vast draperies with varied and shining tones, which harmonize well with the overall chromaticism of the profound landscape vision.
Of great importance is the landscape in the background, set on the aerial perspective, as well as the linear one, which merges the things closest to the horizon, where references to Nordic painting are felt, especially the Flemish one, even if integrated by famous testimonies of others Renaissance painters, like Father Filippo himself and his teacher, Sandro Botticelli.
The altarpiece is paired with a predella with a Pietà with Christ, supported by an angel and flanked by four six saints in a continuous landscape.

LACE AND ART CRAFTSMANSHIP
In Burano it is estimated that the first laces date back to 1500. At the time, lace-making took place only and exclusively in stately homes, using needle and thread without the support of a canvas. In this way the "stitch in the air" is created which allows you to create geometric designs, flowers, animals, spirals and racemes.
In the 17th century, embroidery began using the "rosette stitch", worked with small flying flowers, and the "counter-cut stitch", used for the large scrolls and the relief in the contour cording. These embroideries soon spread throughout Europe and the lace makers of Burano were even called to France to start an important lace creation.

“You will not teach anything if those who listen to you do not perceive your emotion in doing so.”
STEFANO CHIACCHIARINI
…I was looking for an aphorism on emotions, I came across this, I think it can also fit well with photography, because the photographic story that I am about to present here, on Flickr, led me to experience intense emotions while I was taking my photographs , I took photos yes, but at the same time I had to make a strong effort to repress those emotions, because they were so intense that I risked being overwhelmed by them… thus risking losing concentration on what was materializing before my eyes…. The party I attended, thus realizing this photographic series, was held at the beginning of May in the town of Melilli, which celebrates its patron saint San Sebastiano, in reality the canonical feast is held on January 20 also in Melilli, however this town in the province of Syracuse, in early May a "Big Feast" is organized to commemorate an event that seems to originate now from a historical event (it would be reported on an ancient correspondence), now from a story that has the flavor of legend : the story tells that in April 1414 a ship coming from the Adriatic Sea was wrecked on an island near the coast, there were no deaths, and the event, considered miraculous, was attributed to the presence on the ship of a statue of San Sebastiano, which was kept inside a chest, a chest that became heavily immovable by anyone who tried to lift it, the story (or legend) has it that the chest containing San Sebastiano became light only when some inhabitants of Melilli tried to lift it, a sign that the Saint wanted to be brought to that country, and so San Sebastiano was satisfied. Talking about the feast of San Sebastiano di Melilli also means talking about the so-called "nuri", a Sicilian dialect word which indicates those who "naked" come on foot (even barefoot) from numerous towns in the surrounding area, even very distant countries: in reality the custom of walking "naked" covered only by a band in correspondence with the pubic area belongs to the past, when "naked" were only male, later with the participation also of the female, the "naked" ” they have covered themselves, wearing white clothes, including a bandana, with red bands tightened around the waist and trunk, so they come on foot, even barefoot, wearing or not wearing white socks; the children cannot be missing, and since for them the journey on foot is unthinkable, the parents take turns carrying their little ones on their shoulders, even very small ones (we are talking about distances to be covered on foot of even 40 or 50 km!; the “ nuri" arrive in groups, and if all the groups, who are expected according to a precise programme, do not arrive beforehand, the procession with San Sebastiano does not begin; the "nuri (or naked)" bring with them bundles of fresh flowers, the “nuri” from Solarino bring handcrafted paper flowers with them, because due to the distance they have to cover, often under a sun in early May which can be very hot, the fresh flowers would arrive completely ruined. inside the church, they approach the float on which there is the statue of the Saint, a beautiful statue whose face is extremely sweet, not large in size, it appears covered with gold and precious objects: one witnesses a unique ritual of its kind, the devotees ask the staff present on the float to bring their objects closer to the Saint, in this way these objects are considered so blessed (I photographed a very kind and nice gentleman who explained this custom to me, he himself he had a “Sicilian puppet” blessed!). When all the various groups of "nuri" have arrived, then the procession begins, which will carry the statue of San Sebastiano to another church, from which in the late afternoon it will leave for a new procession inside the town of Melilli, to then return to the "his" church.

STEFANO CHIACCHIARINI
