The Gerbera daisy Legend says that the daisy originated from a nymph who transformed herself into a charming but unassuming wildflower to escape unwanted attention. Since then, this April birth flower has had the flower meaning of implicitly and modesty.
These awesome flowers are a genus of ornamental plant from the Sunflowers, Daisies and Aster’s family “Asteraceae”. {It] is a native from Transvaal, South Africa, where it grows in full sun. It was named in honor of the German naturalist Traugott Gerber in 1743. [...].
Gerberas come in a wide range of colors, bicolor and tricolors… almost every color except blue. They often measure 17-18cm across and can be colored light to dark yellow, orange, pink, brilliant scarlet and deep red.

This little modesty sprouted quite lonely from the middle of Frankenia laevis and it took me until just now to be able to identify it with any degree of certainty.
It seemed somehow familiar from my distant childhood, which is why the penny finally dropped: it is the dwarf form of the snapdragon, known in German as "Klaffmäulchen".

P.S.: I love the sharpness distribution at the base of the plant, so not even cropped to my usual 4:5 ratio.
Dieser kleine Bursche ersproß ganz einsam aus der Mitte der Frankenia laevis und ich habe bis soeben gebraucht, sie überhaupt mit annähernder Sicherheit bestimmen zu können.
Aus meiner fernen Kindheit kam sie mir irgendwie bekannt vor, daher fiel auch letztendlich der Groschen: es ist die Zwergform des Löwenmäulchens, man nennt sie im Deutschen „Klaffmäulchen“.

Bamboo Forest / Arashiyama – Kyoto, Japan
Alone in time and space. That's how I feel sometimes, but I don't see it as a bad thing because I need my time to be alone. If I'm somewhere for myself like this Japanese lady in the picture - and usually outside in nature - I can rearrange my thoughts, breathe deeply and fill my soul with new strength. The power and beauty of nature helps me the most and I emerge from it strengthened with new vitality.
The days in Japan opened my heart to new encounters, wonderful nature and a fascinating culture. The time during the days of Sakura - the festival of cherry blossoms - was blessed by the warmth and kindness of many people in Japan. This photo was taken in Kyoto and its beautiful surroundings with the most impressive temples and their gardens that I have seen so far.
I was on a journey to myself in a Land of smiles and friendliness. In a Land full of helpfulness and modesty. That's how I experienced Japan and its people. It was a journey that touched me really and was thoughtful, but at the same time gave me a lot of joy and happiness.
No road is long - with a friend on the side.
Happiness comes to those who give us their smile.

Lotus is worshipped especially in Egypt. It was considered a symbol of creation there. In Ancient Greece, it was a symbol of innocence and modesty. They say there are now more than 1,700 species of lotuses although I have come across very little of them. Perhaps just like the human race, they first came from Africa, spreading to Egypt, India,Greece, China and elsewhere.

In 2010 I posted an image of a male Black Redstart, see link below

You will read that I had a vision of an image I wanted to achieve (it's a nod to any number of Godfather film posters that I thought were very striking) I have nearly pulled off the image without having to do post capture enhancement. Though the bird is not looking at me I still think this image is quite striking and hope you forgive my lack of modesty for saying so. I have to say the bird did give me direct looks but I was not quick enough on the draw to capture them. The opportunity with the lighting only lasted a couple of minutes if I was lucky to have the sun shining and the bird on the right part of the wall.
This male had a very successful breeding season. A few weeks before I made this image he was indistinguishable from the female. I watched him every day and saw his transition...he looked a scruffy bugger for a while.

The trail later became a wagon trail for settlers traveling West over the eastern range of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Since Virginia is on the Atlantic coast, it is sometimes hard to think of it as the gateway to the Old West, but it was.
