TRANQUILLITÉ
Un silence profond, abyssal succéda à la furieuse tempête de neige qui avait foudroyé la vallée de la rivière, la forêt environnante et notre modeste cabane grinçante.
Ce silence aussi soudain qu’étrange calma mon esprit, comme s’il avait été sous l’emprise d’une Magicienne, d’une Enchanteresse. Une tranquillité absolue qui m’imposa un moment de recueillement, improbable autrement. En moi, une sensation s’imposait de plus en plus nettement: celle de ce lien indicible qui nous unit, nous les êtres vivants, à notre planète, à nos origines, à l’Univers…
…dans un silence profond.

STILLNESS
A deep, abyssal silence followed the furious snowstorm that had struck down the river valley, the surrounding forest and our modest creaking cabin.
This sudden and strange silence calmed my mind, as if it had been under the influence of a Magician, an Enchantress. An absolute tranquility that imposed on me a moment of contemplation, improbable otherwise. In me, a feeling imposed itself more and more clearly: that of this unspeakable bond which unites us, us the living beings, with our planet, with our origins, with the Universe…
…in deep silence.

À la tombée de la nuit, Après un magnifique coucher de soleil sur la mer, le ciel nous offre une belle palette de couleurs.
Une Tour Eiffel de sable au Touquet, faites par l'artiste Alain Godon. Une sculpture qui fait évidemment référence au passé de la station balnéaire, Le Touquet - Paris Plage, quand de nombreux Parisiens venaient ici se ressourcer.
L’artiste Alain Godon est modeste : pour lui, rien de compliqué là-dedans. Il a pourtant réalisé une Tour Eiffel de 9,5 mètres, construite à partir de blocs de polystyrène, d’une résine et de sable. Située place du Centenaire, face à l’Aqualud, la construction a été appelée "tour Paris-Plage".
Véritable trait d'union entre le Touquet et Paris, cette sculpture est une référence à l'histoire de la station balnéaire : Le Touquet-Paris-Plage. "C'est un symbole de Paris parce que c'est les Parisiens au départ, il y a plus de cent ans, qui avaient les premières maisons sur ces dunes désertes", explique l'artiste. "Ca a aussi été pendant très longtemps la capitale des stations balnéaires françaises, voire européennes."
Un pont
"On fait venir la plage à Paris, pour les gens qui peuvent pas venir à la mer, et pour les gens qui sont à la mer, faut pas croire qu'il n'y a que des gens aisés, on fait venir la Capitale aussi ici", poursuit l'artiste. "C'est une façon aussi de mettre un pont sur le fossé."

DESCRIPTION OF HISTORIC PLACE
The Alex Houston Residence consists of a modest 1 1/2 storey wood-frame house on a country lot. It is within view of the Fraser River and is located in the Greater Vancouver Regional District's Derby Reach Park in NW Langley, British Columbia.
HERITAGE VALUE
Built in 1909 by Alexander Houston, the Houston Residence is important for its historic significance in terms of its association with the Houston family, its location, and the period in which it was built. It is also an important example of a community-led restoration that combined the resources of the Langley Heritage Society and the Greater Vancouver Regional District.
The Houstons were an important family in British Columbia's history. Alex's father, James, is credited for being the first European to discover gold along the Fraser River, the first independent farmer in the Fraser Valley, one of 33 men to petition the government for an incorporation of the district, and one of the first councillors when Langley was incorporated as a District in 1873.
Alex took over the family cattle and dairy farming business in 1902 (after the death of his father). He was the only son of James and was himself an important pioneer in the Derby area. His family was very active in the community until the 1950's, having established and hosted the community May Day celebrations and donating land for a commemorative cairn across the street from his house, marking the site of the first Fort Langley.
The farmsite stands on what was originally land occupied by the first Hudson's Bay Company Fort (1827) and later by the Townsite of Derby (1859). It is a focal point for Derby historical interpretations.
The Houston farmsite reminds visitors that resource-based industries found throughout the province (mining, logging and fishing) were only some of the major forces shaping British Columbia in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The resource-based industries were comprised primarily of single men, while the small farms were comprised of families. Small-scale family farms like this one provided an economic base for the industries mentioned above, and they provided the social stability that was necessary for a growing colony.

A Great Blue Heron in an uncompleted nest atop a dead trees captures a scene of delicate construction and stark natural beauty. These large wading birds are often seen in "rookeries" during late winter and early spring, building or repairing nests high in the canopies of standing dead trees (snags)

Ammi Visnaga 'Green Mist' is an Egyptian wildflower similar to Queen Anne’s Lace.
It has longer stems, hardier blooms, and is lovely pale green.
Bishops Flower, Queen Annes are common names.
Bishop's Flower, or Queen Anne's Lace flowers are nectar rich and attractive to bees and butterflies.
Ammi ‘Casablanca’ is a wonderful border plant and good cut flower. It has larger, showier, more rounded umbels than Ammi majus.
Without doubt one of the best filler-foliage plants you can grow and a flower arrangers dream.
Ammi Casablance is easy to grow and adds a delicate airiness to any sunny or partially shaded border.
Caution: The sap from these plants can irritate the skin and may cause blistering when exposed to the sun.

Bald Eagle with its small catch in its talons...racing down river to a safe spot to eat without being hassled by its fellow species....
The Wabisuke Camellia flowers are rather small and have a modest, refined elegance that is very impressive.
The reason they are so highly valued as flowers for the tea ceremony is probably because they are associated with the aesthetic sense of wabi-sabi.
侘助系の椿の花はやや小振りで慎まし
く奥ゆかしい上品さが印象的です。
開花時期が一般の椿よりやや早めで
冬の寒さの中で咲く姿は健気です。
茶花として重用されるのは侘び寂びの
美意識に通じるものがあるからでしょう。
