Lost in her mobile phone screen for quite some time. I prefer to be fully aware of my surroundings in the city.
The data recovery has failed. It is taking so long, just GB of data per day, that it would take months to recover images from my drive. I will be collecting it soon and will attempt, myself, to just recover some of the processed .jpgs if I can. I have to accept, however, that I may just have lost an entire year's worth of photographs. Ones that have great emotional significance.
Please back up regularly my friends.

A previously unpublished shot from May 2017. Like many street shooters I have avoided, as much as possible, posting too many images of people staring at their mobile phones. Even, as in this case, they are walking so obliviously they might walk right into you! The sad truth is that this is a reflection of life in our time and that, as far as I am concerned, is the premise of street photography. A photographic documentary of life in our times as a record for future generations (hopefully) to reflect upon, as we do now with street photographs from 60 or more years ago. At the moment I have no new work so I am digging out a few more of these smartphone shots than usual, hope you don't mind! :)

Thank you all for your amazing support for my photography.
More caffeinated beverages are needed today as I have again had no more than 4 hours of sleep despite taking a prescribed sleeping tablet last night. This is insane. I've never had trouble sleeping before.
I hope that you are all well and look forward to your comments and enjoying your photographs on Flickr too. Take care.

Fascism on the rise.
Eugenicist language used against the vulnerable.
Lies readily believed because it's easy.
Truth dismissed despite masses of evidence.
Rights restricted.
Protest quashed.
Power abused.
International law blown apart.
The rules based order broken.
Don't look up.
Greed.
Power.
Hate.
Humanity lost.

I guess you could call this 'found still life' photography. It caught my eye enough for me to frame and capture this shot on the streets of Glasgow, Scotland.
I had a day of street photography ruined in Glasgow yesterday after receiving random abuse from a passing Celtic football fan in the city as hundreds of them came in for a match. It triggered my PTSD and that was my day ruined. In 11 years of street photography in Glasgow I have been sworn at many times, stalked once and physically assaulted once. This was the first time I ever felt frightened. PTSD sucks.
Another street photographer, Billy, was a star and treated me to a coffee and a chat that rescued the emotion of the day but my photographic confidence was shot. I headed home early.
It is extra annoying that I now have a 4 hour round trip to get to Glasgow and that, with my Long Covid, it is such a physical investment to make. I have to rest for two days beforehand and for two days afterwards I am completely devoid of strength, energy and can do nothing but sleep all day and night.
Fingers crossed that my next expedition into Glasgow is a more productive one. I hope that you are all having an awesome weekend and that you have been able to take some amazing photos.
Take care.

Did we have our heads buried in books before the advent of smartphones or did we observe the world around us?
Are we losing the ability to interact with others face-to-face?
Are we going to evolve to have permanently hunched necks?
Hmmm.

Our modern world. Always connected and yet often detached.
I hope that your week is a good one my Flickr friends. Take care.
a moment caught between light and shadow, where time seems to slow down and the world turns into patterns. steps become whispers, and every line holds a secret waiting to be heard.

If our data is more valuable than we are as people, are we robots already? Hmmm.

She studies the small glowing screen while the harbor drifts behind her.
A breath, a drag, a pause.
The city keeps moving, but for a moment, her attention holds still.

Photojournalism from an Anti-Trump demonstration in George Square, Glasgow, in July 2018.
Glaswegians going all out on the signs, I thought this was a particularly poignant juxtaposition at the time.
I hate to post politics here on Flickr and I am not sharing my political views. I am, however, expressing my humanity, empathy, compassion and understanding of science.
We have the President of the USA tearing up and deleting peer reviewed science on sex, gender, reproductive medicine, vaccines, cancer research and climate science.
They burned the books in 1933.
Now we have the President of the USA openly talking about the removal and relocation of millions of people, from their homeland, with no challenge from our mainstream media and Netanyahu sitting beside him smiling. A war crime. Ethnic cleansing. Completely unchallenged.
If you ever wonder how the world watched and waited for Adolf Hitler to tear up the borders across Europe and commit atrocities against millions of people, then open your eyes and ears right now.
The mainstream media are ignoring a great number of desperately important issues right now because it doesn't suit the narrative of their billionaire owners and manipulators. Ignoring the rise of fascism is just the latest of their complicity.
Again, I post this simply because I care. I care about us, humans, our world, our survival and our place in the universe.
Hate only ever leads to suffering.

While it is not World Poetry Day until 21st March, every Friday is Poets Day here in the UK because tomorrow is Saturday.
I'm hoping to get out with my camera tomorrow. Pain and weather permitting. I wish you all an amazing weekend ahead my Flickr friends. Stay safe and take photos.
she walked past without noticing me. slow steps, steady rhythm. the habit swayed slightly with each movement. inside the tunnel, everything was dark. outside, a harsh, sterile brightness. between the two, a perfect circle of shadow, as if the earth itself marked a passage.

An impromptu smile to brighten the day as she was flattered that I chose her for a candid shot. She is clearly rocking the one green eyebrow for a striking look. It was odd coloured neon socks when I was growing up.

he walked like he had done it a thousand times. not fast, not slow. not late, not early. just moving forward through the corridor of polished silence. the airport in málaga didn’t ask questions. it offered direction. and sometimes, that was enough.

Never read the comments.
Sage advice for most social media platforms but, thankfully, Flickr remains one of the nicer places for social contact on the Internet.
I was just looking at some of my older Explore photos to reply to the comments and thank everyone but I am finding that many are missing comments. For example, one shot said there were 89 comments but only the last 18 would display despite refreshing the page numerous times. This has happened to my older shots before.
So, that in mind, please know that I am always grateful for your comments on my photographs.
I hope that you are having a brilliant weekend.
Take care.
