Oxford police, EMS, Fire Dept. and BOE are had a mass casualty exercise on Tuesday evening. Casualty victim Miranda Luker at the scene. She had head trauma.
Duchesnea indica - Yellow flowers are produced in mid spring, then sporadically throughout the growing season. The leaves are trifoliate, roughly veined and dark green. The fruits are white or red, and entirely covered with red seed-like achenes. They are edible, but they have very little flavor. It's in our lawn with many other little plants that make our lawn green and Autumn leaves. This cute little flower doesn't get much sunshine where it's growing in Putnam County, Carmel,NY.
This male American Kestrel dodges the divebombing Northern Mockingbird, who it seems is not happy with his presence.
My money would be on the kestrel, but I would've lost in this case.

I'm not sure whether our lights have disturbed the sleeping snake and it is showing some kind of threat response, or whether it is simply breathing deeply, but its body looks completely different between the two shots.
I think this is an example of Philadelphus or Mock orange - it certainly has a lovely scent.

Mock-orange (Philadelphus coronarius) is a genus of about 60 species of shrubs from 1 to 6 m tall, native to North America, Central America, Asia and (locally) in southeast Europe.
They are named "mock-orange" in reference to their flowers, which in wild species look somewhat similar to those of oranges and lemons (Citrus) at first glance, and smell of orange flowers and jasmine (Jasminum). But Philadelphus is a basal asterid, not closely related to Jasminum (advanced asterids), and among the eudicots quite distant indeed from Citrus (advanced rosids). An entirely misleading name for Philadelphus that is sometimes encountered is syringa; this properly refers to the lilacs, which are fairly close relatives of jasmine.
Nine College of idaho students, each playing the role of a particular current justice on the U.S. Supreme Court, barraged local attorneys arguing the cases with questions during the College's mock court class in January 2013. Last Thursday spectators had the opportunity to watch a mock crime scene play out in the Student Center. The simulation was a collaboration between the criminal justice, accounting, and information and communications technology programs. The scenario involved a gunshot victim with stick drives containing evidence including banking records and ransom notes. It was a wonderful way to demonstrate through one example how the various academic fields and career paths can be closely aligned depending on the situation.
