This is a very good year for wolf spiders [ pardosa amentata ] and everywhere I go in the garden there are several, all dutifully carrying their eggs. I spotted this unusual one yesterday, which to the naked eye looked a little blue and a bit larger than the others. It was on closer inspection that I realised that its egg had in fact hatched and it was carrying around a complete brood of youngsters, which all seemed to be behaving perfectly, slotting in with each other in a most organised and civilised way.
