Mixed Light Series

The time of day that draws me in where electric light and natural evening light meet creating a few moments of a special blend that alters both.

I processed the image with a painterly abstraction expressing my impression of the moment.

For this week’s Macro Mondays theme of ‘Spooky and Frightful’ I have chosen to photograph a Pumpkin Tea Light Holder.

For this shot, I have used three separate light sources. The light inside the pumpkin is a small tea light. This I moved to the rear of the holder so it would not be visible in the shot. The rear lights are a string of novelty LED lights, each with a pumpkin ‘shade’ on them. The final light was a small bedside table-lamp to camera left. This light was partially flagged to reduce the overall light falling on to the pumpkin tea light holder. To obtain the ‘bokeh’ I used an aperture of f4.5.

I will show 9 images from my series "Insomnia" in the group exhibition "Preparing for darkness" from May 12 - 21.

Would love to meet you at the opening reception: Kühlhaus, Gleisdreieck Berlin, Luckenwalder Str. 3, 10963 Berlin, Friday, May 11, 18h.

Theme inspired photo for Macro Mondays "Collection" challenge.

Image spans 2.5in. on the long side.

A typical Yorkshire Dales' view, with old trees, the sheep and the ever ongoing dry-stone walls drawing dark dividing lines through the land.

The light was golden, the air crisp and clear, I love Winter.

It reminds me of the paintings of one of the Brueghel's.

Since it was taken with 400 asa film, I reduced the grain for once, however the main reason was to get that 'paint' effect that the famous Flemish painter's family BREUGHEL and others put in their paintings. This was how I saw it, a bright sky and some mystery in the trees, the cold wind gently blurring my tear-filled eyes.

This image is an artistic interpretation.

Have a great day and thanx, M, (*_*)

How super when it is still light and yet, the lights come on... mixed light in photography terms.

Often great for imageries.

No matter where you are, or what time of year, always moody, even a little nostalgic.

Have a lovely day and thanks for viewing, Magda, (*_*)

Afternoon tea at the Georgian Tea Room at the Dome in Edinburgh

The Dome is a building on George Street in the New Town area of Edinburgh. First built as the headquarters of the Commercial Bank of Scotland in 1847, it is currently a bar, restaurant and nightclub. The building was designed by David Rhind in a Graeco-Roman style and it stands on the site of the Physicians' Hall, the offices of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, which was built in the 18th century to designs by James Craig, the planner of the New Town.

For this week’s Macro Mondays ‘Member’s Choice: Into the Woods’ theme, I have chosen to photograph some Rough-stalked Feather-moss. This moss was prevalent in the local wood that I visited, covering lots of fallen branches and on many trees too.

The lighting for this shot is a combination of natural light (obviously being in the wood), with the addition of a reflector and a tiny amount of fill in flash from a Nikon SB200 (up and behind) to camera right. Post processing in Lightroom and Photoshop CC.

We had moved just into our new home!

Moving used to be an easier affair, now with all the electronics and the ZILLIONS of cables!

This was the loverly surprise that first morning, not often to be seen, a fairy-tale like beauty...

The sun showed up, the sky turned blue... suddenly, it was gone...

Enjoy it while you can!

Thanx, M, (*_*)

Unspoilt (as yet) brutalist architecture.

While glancing around the room I found the mixed light so fascinating. The golden sunset light shining through the window on the left and onto the wall, the yellow artificial lights on the tree and the blue light showing through the window on the right. I felt there was a message for me in this—there can be many forms of light and each of them beautiful in their own unique way.

DONE FOR THE DAY...

The sun was going down still a lovely afterglow, the people driving home still smiling after a lovely day, the lights came on to work for the night, shops and attractions were closing down grateful for a well-earned rest, DONE FOR THE DAY...

Photographically an interesting time, this is a pond on the North Beach, in Bridlington, where kids can ride little boats, the promenade light reflecting in the still water.

I must be getting old - Father Christmas is getting younger each year! Knowing full well that the week before Christmas can be really quite a stressful one for some, I wish for peace and calm for you all. Take care and be nice to each other.

Merry Christmas and Season's Greetings to all.

I had originally set out with camera and long telephoto zoom lens with intent to take photos of a bird in the area, but got distracted by dappled patches of sunlight passing by on the nearby hill instead.

Something different I put together during my class break tonight. Just playing with contrast and grain for a change (as opposed to removing it!). I am not sure how I feel about it... what do you think?

For this week’s Macro Mondays ‘Intentional Blur’ theme, I have chosen to photograph a die-cast model Spitfire … complete with moving propeller!

Lighting was little more complex for this, but the shot is very easy to replicate. The overall image is exposed with diffused natural window light. To compliment the name ‘Spitfire’ (and give the fire in the sky effect) I used an image of a sunset displayed via an iPad. To capture the yellow tips of the prop, I used a torch with a tightly focussed beam. To make the propeller spin, I used a hair-dryer (which is just out of shot). Post processing in Lightroom CC to slew the WB to the warmer end of the spectrum, and finally tweaked in Photoshop CC.

Detail of a burn tumbling over a small collection of stones.

Beaune is the wine capital of Burgundy in the Côte d'Or department in eastern France.

It is located between Paris and Geneva.

Beaune is a walled town at the center of the Burgundy winemaking region in France.

Surrounded by the Côte d'Or vineyards, this cobbled town is a joy to visit.

A Roman fort was built there in the first century A.D. and it was already a prosperous wine-growing region in the 13th century.

Driving up from the South of France, this was our stop halfway.

We had a nice meal with of course, the accompanied wine.

It had been a torrid hot days, where the air is as hot as your body, and you can't feel yourself breathing.

At last it was getting balmy now, so we took our cameras for a walk, lol

There was a certain silence and atmosphere.

Have a lovely day, M, (*_*)
