A mischievous temple monkey hides out in one of the many shrines at Swayambhunath - an ancient and sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site situated on top of a hill outside Kathmandu, Nepal. This “holy monkey" competes with hundreds of other wily scavengers for rice and food offerings left by pilgrims and devotees. Noritsu Koki slide scan, Asahi Pentax SP Spotmatic, circa 1973.
There's something so adorable about young brown bear spring cubs ... who often go about their daily lives without a care in the world. Sure, every once in a while, they might get the reprimand from their mama, but for the most part, they're free spirits.
As with our own children, and even our own selves, there's always a fine line that defines innocent vs mischievous looks.
In the animal world, I have always noticed that siblings often are very different than each other. Some are more outgoing ... some more curious ... some more obedient ... some more athletic ... etc. When I look at this image, I can pretty much guess which of these are more adventurous and takes more risks than the other. What do you think?
This trip to Katmai NP & Preserve, we had sightings of 4 different sows, each had 2 spring cubs in tow. It was such a thrill to watch them as they learned new things, were curious about the world around them, played clumsily with each other, and gently and affectionately bonded with their mamas - both independently and as a family.
I've said it before, but I think that mama bears make amazing parents and role models. :-)
Happy Monday everyone! Thanks so much for stopping by to view and especially for sharing your thoughts and comments.

Permitting a 30 second photo op, before he destroyed the "set." He is the "Peter Pan" of all cats and refuses to grow up.
The mischievous face, a canvas so fine,
A symphony of lines, a dance divine.
So let us cherish this face, this window to the soul,
This masterwork of mischief, that makes us whole.
For in its lines and curves, we find our own delight,
A reflection of our inner selves, shining bright.
The squirrels are back to taunting the cats in the window again. This time, the squirrel brought a younger apprentice (not seen in this frame). I don’t know why these little rodents are so obsessed with the cats, but they visit at least once a day. It is fairly entertaining for all involved.
The squirrel is clinging to the screen, if you were wondering. He is just turning his head inward toward the cats. It makes for an odd visual effect, because you think you are looking at the top of the squirrel.

This black cat has been roaming the neighbourhood.
I was in the kitchen and Kisa started freaking out. It was a noise I had never heard come out of her before. The black cat was right outside the patio screen door, tail puffed, having a stare down with Kisa.
It's a very pretty cat but I don't like it scaring my poor Kisa. We are keeping the glass door closed now.

The vervet monkey (Chlorocebus pygerythrus), or simply vervet, is an Old World monkey of the family Cercopithecidae native to Africa. The five distinct subspecies can be found mostly throughout Southern Africa, as well as some of the eastern countries. These mostly herbivorous monkeys have black faces and grey body hair color, ranging in body length from about 50 centimetres (20 in) for males to about 40 centimetres (16 in) for females.
They are arboreal monkeys, which means that they spend much of their lives in the trees. Because they are arboreal, you are likely to find vervet monkeys climbing and jumping in the forests and wooded areas near rivers and streams.
A vervet monkey's long arms and long tail help it move quickly and safely through the trees to search for food and locate members of its troop. Vervet monkeys are omnivores, which means they eat other animals as well as plants. Some of their favorite foods include leaves, flowers, fruit, insects, eggs, and small birds. You might have noticed that these foods all have something in common - they can be found in the trees!
This very mischievous Vervet Monkey was photographed on the shores of Lake Naivasha, Kenya.
