Khan-e Borujerdi, one of the 19th century restored mansions that Kashan is famous for. To varying degrees, these mansions are a mix of traditional Persian design with features drawn from European Renaissance architecture. All have courtyard gardens with pools, sometimes several courtyard gardens. Grand iwans overlook these courtyard gardens, below which are cool cellar recesses. These mansions feature carved and pierced plasterwork, stained glass, latticework in masonry, and mirrorwork decoration. Khan-e-Borujerdi makes most play with European styles in the profuse carved plasterwork.

After lunch, we went to Khan-e Borujerdi, one of the restored 19th century historical houses in Kashan. It looked rather sad in winter. The main hall was under restoration but other chambers were quite impressive. In order to have a better view of the distinct feature of Khan-e Borujerdi, a multi-faceted wind tower, one had to climb to the ledge of the second level.

Pulled out the old Sindhi topi that was lying in my closet (along with my Sindhi vests, pillow covers, and parandaas), and tossed it in my teacher bucket for Tuesday ("authentic texts" in class).

Seeing the topi again reminded me of its origin. No, not the part of its origin where...(read entire post here oylpa.blogspot.com/2011/07/day-284-sindhi-topi.html ).

On way back to Kashan, we stopped by a farmhouse because we saw a few camels from the road. The residents were not around when we dropped by. We went to the backyard where they kept the camels. The camels ignored us so someone found a way to catch their attention by luring them with hay. Hamed tried the same tactic but he was less lucky. He did not give up and ran after a camel. Imagine this, Hamed running after a camel with a hand waving a bunch of hay in the air and was in turn chased by a farm dog! It was a hilarious scene to watch and we had a good laugh. When Hamed gave up and walked towards us, panting and in between breaths, he exclaimed that now he knew camels could run really fast!
