Shwedagon Pagoda, Yangon, Myanmar

The Shwedagon Pagoda (Mon: ကျာ်ဒဂုၚ်; Burmese: ရွှေတိဂုံဘုရား; MLCTS: hrwe ti. gum bhu. ra:, IPA: [ʃwèdəɡòʊɰ̃ pʰəjá]), officially named Shwedagon Zedi Daw (Burmese: ရွှေတိဂုံစေတီတော်, [ʃwèdəɡòʊɰ̃ zèdìdɔ̀], lit. 'Golden Dagon Pagoda') and also known as the Great Dagon Pagoda and the Golden Pagoda, is a gilded stupa located in Yangon, Myanmar.

The Shwedagon is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar, as it is believed to contain relics of the four previous Buddhas of the present kalpa. These relics include the staff of Kakusandha, the water filter of Koṇāgamana, a piece of the robe of Kassapa, and eight strands of hair from the head of Gautama.

Built on the 51-metre (167 ft) high Singuttara Hill, the 112 m (367 ft) tall pagoda stands 170 m (560 ft) above sea level, and dominates the Yangon skyline. Yangon's zoning regulations, which cap the maximum height of buildings to 127 metres (417 feet) above sea level (75% of the pagoda's sea level height), ensure the Shwedagon's prominence in the city's skyline

Jodhpur is a popular tourist destination, featuring many palaces, forts and temples, set in the stark landscape of the Thar Desert.

The city is known as the "Sun City" for the bright and sunny weather it enjoys all the year round. The old city circles the fort and is bounded by a wall with several gates. Jodhpur is also known as the "Blue City" because of the blue colours that decorate many of the houses in the old city area.

Life in a handicraft village near the Great Rann of Kutch.

This is a small village in Bhirandiara near the Chhari Dhand Bird Sanctuary in Gujarat enroute to the Great White desert. This is basically a single family involved in handicrafts and offering a holiday homestay.

Bhirandiara is also home to the Raysipotra. The Raysipotra are a Muslim community found in the state of Gujarat in India and a province of Sindh in Pakistan. They are one of a number of communities of pastoral nomads found in the Banni region of Kutch.

The Raysipotra get their name from Raysojee, who belonged to the Dal Muslim community. They are a small Maldhari community found in the village of Bhirandiara in the Banni region of Kutch. They are also found in the village of Gadhiyado. Their habitat is located in the heart of the Banni region, a semi-desert ecosystem. The climate is dry and hot, and pastoral lifestyle is the only option for the inhabitants. They speak Kutchi with many Sindhi loanwords.

The community has no sub-divisions, and are an endogamous community, but do marry with other Samma . They prefer parallel cousin and cross cousin marriages.

The Raysipotra are a community of Maldhari cattle breeders. They take their cattle to bazaars of Bhuj. In addition to cattle rearing, they also raise goats and buffaloes. Like other Kutchi communities, many of them have migrated to other parts of India in search of employment. They are Sunni Muslims and most follow the Barelvi tradition.

Khan-e Borujerdi, one of the 19th century restored mansions that Kashan is famous for. To varying degrees, these mansions are a mix of traditional Persian design with features drawn from European Renaissance architecture. All have courtyard gardens with pools, sometimes several courtyard gardens. Grand iwans overlook these courtyard gardens, below which are cool cellar recesses. These mansions feature carved and pierced plasterwork, stained glass, latticework in masonry, and mirrorwork decoration. Khan-e-Borujerdi makes most play with European styles in the profuse carved plasterwork.

When we arrived at Kashan, we went to Delpazir Restaurant for lunch. It was my first meal at an Iranian restaurant and it was quite a feast. We had salad, barley soup, different types of yoghurt, kebabs, doogh (yoghurt drink) and khoresht-e-fesenjun. Khoresht-e-fesenjun is a meat stew, usually chicken, in a rich pomegranate and walnut sauce that often served with white rice; it was love at first taste. To add to the happy mood, Ehsan announced that it was Rouzbeh’s birthday!
