Mint leaves grow in pairs, each successive pair at 90 degrees to the one below. This plant, however, has leaves in threes, each trio offset from the one below by 60 degrees. Its neighbours in the garden bed are all normal mint plants with their leaves in pairs.
Mentha (mint) is a genus of about 25 species of flowering plants in the family Lamiaceae (Mint Family). Species within Mentha have a subcosmopolitan distribution across Europe, Africa, Asia,Australia, and North America. Several mint hybrids commonly occur.
Mints are aromatic, almost exclusively perennial herbs.

I made non-alcoholic mint juleps for the Kentucky Derby. It is the same recipe that they use at Disney's Port Orleans. Theirs might not be this green, however, since I purchased a particularly green brand of Crème de menthe. It still tastes good though.
This mint is a stable at any conference or event in a conference center in New Zealand it seems. This company must have the mint monopoly here.

Mint green 6 transistor radio no name,same radio as the blue melos transistor on my sight,this is a great looking transistor radio that is hardly ever seen.
I think this is marsh mint (also known as field mint, Mentha arvensis), though I suppose it might be pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium). Both are European invasives - in other words, weeds. This mint grows in many places around Brooktrails, blooming in July in beds of small streams and other places where runoff had lingered longest.
The first herbs I moved into a planter were my mint plants; I’m anxious to get them settled and large enough that I can start cutting from them. The planter looked great and it smelled incredible! But...

You know how they warn you pregnancy makes you kinda airheaded? On Sunday, we bought groceries that included this mint but I might, perhaps have not totally emptied them from their bag before starting to use it as a garbage bag. Two days later, I'm all "where's the fresh mozzarella?" "where's the mint?" Of course the garbage was in the foyer (okay, pushing it calling it a "foyer" but you know, by the front door) because why would we take the garbage out? And fortunately, it was just mail and stuff on top and the mint was still perfect inside its bag. The cheese, of course, did not make it.

Time for some holiday foodie shots! This week, I'm baking/cooking several special recipes for gifts or holiday get-togethers. Since I joined a recipe group, I thought I'd photograph them to share. Happy cooking & eating! This is a new recipe to me, found in a newspaper holiday cookie supplement. If you have trouble finding mint chips, I suspect that dark chocolate chips would be dandy, too! Color red if you prefer.
Mint Chip Cookies
3/4 c. (1 1/2 sticks) butter, softened
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/4 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. mint extract
1 c. chocolate chips
1 c. mint chips
2-3 drops green food coloring
Add butter & sugar to bowl & cream until light & fluffy. Add eggs & mix again. Add vanilla & mint extracts & food coloring & mix again, until light & fluffy. Sift together flour, baking powder, & salt. Add, in thirds, mixing well on low speed, until combined. By hand, mix in chocolate & mint chips. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto lightly buttered baking sheets & bake at 375 F. for 10-14 minutes, until lightly browned. Makes approximately four dozen cookies.
