I've been rummaging around in old hard drives looking for files that deserve another edit. Topaz AI has done a good job on this one. Much better than the first time around.

Thanks for your views, faves and comments.

Ulmus minor (Ulmaceae) 057 21

The field elm (Ulmus minor) is a fast-growing, medium-sized, deciduous tree found mainly in South European regions.

The wood of the field elm is of good quality, making it useful for furniture, flooring and firewood. It has excellent resistance to water decay, so its timber is also suitable for underwater constructions and for boatsshipbuilding.

The tree is riparian and usually found on the banks of smaller streams. It can reproduce by root suckers and is, as other pioneer species, light-demanding and fast-growing. It is tolerant towards stress factors, such as salty winds, waterlogging, drought and pollution. However, due to the Dutch elm disease, the population has been heavily reduced. Nevertheless, European elms, in general, are not considered endangered due to strong resilience and genetic variability in forest habitats.

This 1969 registered Minor 1000 looks very original. It's not shown on the DVLA data base any more which surprised me seeing as it was parked on a main road.

Vinca minor is an evergreen, native to large parts of central and southern Europe as well as the Anatolian peninsula in south-west Asia. It has long been used, and escaped from, cultivation. This means that it is today difficult to determine quite where it was native and where it is a archaeophyte (a plant that has long been naturalised in an area). In the United States, where it is also known as creeping myrtle or just myrtle, it was once commonly planted in cemeteries. It has since been naturalized and its occurrence may indicate the presence of no longer marked graves. In some parts of the US, the periwinkle spreads easily and competes with the native plants.

The lesser periwinkle was used to treat a whole range of illnesses despite all parts it being toxic. Today, its alkaline compounds are isolated for use in a range of medicines. The colour periwinkle or periwinkle blue takes its name from the flower.

In case you are wondering, yes, there is also a greater/large periwinkle, Vinca major which can be seen here flic.kr/p/2qXfod4

According to wikipedia this car would rocket from 0 to 60mph in 52 (yes fifty two!) seconds and it's top speed was 62 mph.

In 1960 it became the first British car to sell 1,000,000 units (say it in your best Dr Evil voice).
