The miniature railway at Southport was built in 1911, with the first train running on 25th May. It was constructed by Miniature Railways of Great Britain Ltd using materials provided by the model engineering business Bassett-Lowke. Henry Greenly provided expert engineering advice. The line was originally named Southport Miniature Railway, becoming Lakeside Miniature Railway, in 1930. In 1945 the railway was sold to Harry Barlow who owned a local engineering company famous for building miniature locomotives. The line originally had two steam locomotives of the Bassett-Lowke Class 10 'Atlantic' 4-4-2 design. In 1948, Barlow built a petrol-electric loco of 4-6-2 wheel arrangement with a tender, built to look like Gresley's famous LNER Class A4 locomotives. This was the first of eight 15-inch gauge diesel-electric locomotives built by Barlow for a variety of railways. The original locomotive of this type was named ‘Duke of Edinburgh’ and this photograph (photographer unknown) shows Harry Barlow with a BBC interviewer and a large crowd of on lookers, possibly at the unveiling of the new locomotive.

Beauregard encounters an enormous beetle while on safari in the mums. (Preiser train figure)
The challenge on this was positioning the figure before the beetle could run around to the other side of the flower - a bit of mumbling and muttering took place...

This is the first time I have tried a half square triangle quilt. This isn't really a colour combination I like but I do love the effect produced by the triangles. I am donating this to my guild for a miniature quilt raffle.
A tiny resin statue I picked up at Michael’s (chain craft store) for Halloween 2021. Never got around to photographing it until Halloween 2022.
This is a macro image (between 1:2 to 1:1.4 ratio).

Today I was introduced to the miniature Mexican watermelons at a farmer's market. I thought it was interesting because they taste nothing like watermelons. They are firm, crunchy and the inside is sour. They are actually Mexican cucumbers. I love the idea of growing them next year in my garden. It should be fun.

Continuing our miniature Oribana project! :-) Scaled down our Oribana "Awaiting" from "Oribana Delight" collection to 6 inches (15 cm) high, which is about 3 times smaller than the original. The starring model is Tea Rose designed by Katrin along with leaves & stalks. The container design is our Cylindrical Vase. Used hand-made Japanese paper called "Moriki Kozo" for the rose and it worked wonderfully, keeping soft lines of petals. The rose turned 3.5 cm (1.25 inches) in diameter. Happy folding!
The diagrams are published in our ORIBANA DELIGHT
