I'm always after a certain sort of metaphor in nature, signs of survival against the odds. One of my favourite kinds are the twisted trees that grow along precarious stream hollows. This one hangs way out over the canyon of Healeys Brook below. By now, it's slipped a couple of times, pulled down by erosion and gravity before pushing back skyward. If you know me – and if you regularly read me, you do – then you've witnessed my steadily falling, crawling, and getting back up mindset. For as long as I can remember, I've looked at life like a challenge. A struggle, sure, but one completely buoyed by hope. I don't believe in giving up, because it's a very dishonest endeavour. When someone quits what they love, but keeps on living, it shows a lack of understanding for what gets given away. All my drive is adventure and storytelling, artistic escape and expression. Remove that from me, and I'm the tree who pulled its own roots out.
