blog.belinda-love.com/2012/03/jessica-luis-los-angeles-ma... Unfortunately, due to the snow, we did not get to shoot outdoors as originally planned; I hope that that is a minor discrepancy between the two styles of photography. I tried to gather as much natural light as possible.
For my midterm project I chose to emulate the style of Julieanne Kost. Kost uses Photoshop extensively in her work to create evocative invented scenes. Her images are composites created using several images, textures and effects. Kost starts out with a vision of a particular emotion or feeling in mind and uses her skills in Photoshop to achieve the emotion. Her images may be made up of source images taken at different times and in different places. She is always on the lookout for interesting elements such as textures that she can put to use in a future image. Many of her source images come from nature but through compositing and layering she creates her own environment.
Kost uses masking extensively to seamlessly combine the many source images into the composite image. Another element that Kost uses to achieve the final product she has in mind is color. She uses color to unify the various elements within the composite. When creating her images, she often leaves adjusting the color until the end of the process.
I chose to emulate Julieanne Kost’s style because I liked her images. I like that although they are based on natural elements they’re entirely her own creation. Her style is very different from my own, since I am generally a pretty straight shooter, so I figured it would be a challenge. I also really enjoy working in Photoshop, so I thought that this would be a good way to try out some new techniques and improve on my skills. For my image, I used five source images taken in the last year or so in different places and combined them using some of the techniques Julieanne Kost used in her tutorial videos for Adobe TV.

A king only bows down to his queen. Only a woman can make a man a hero in time, because every hero has inspiration. Even a hero needs pillar and strength that only a woman can give. There is always a woman behind every man’s success and failure.
There are opportunities and chances that people don't take even when it's right in the palm of their hands. People let them slip from their fingers into nothing but wasted opportunities.

Adhemas Batista
I chose Adhemas Batista for my midterm project. Batista is a mixed media artist. His work has been sought after by Absolut Vodka, Adobe, Cadbury, Coca-Cola, General Motors, Honda, Microsoft, Nestlé, Nike, Nissan, Puma, Toyota and many more. I chose Batista because of his unique style of photography blended with graphic design. When I viewed Batista's portfolio all of his work had bold bright colors. Batista's brand is that he is "In the business of selling color".
Batista's visual style mixes strong photographs with strong graphics. His style involves enhancing images with the use of photo editing software. The use of organic graphics and swirls are present in all of his work. Batista also likes to mix the real with the imaginative. A work of art by Batista can immediately be recognized by his use of computer graphics that flow seamlessly with an actual image. The goal of Batista's style is to bring a story to life in one image.
Batista's work is heavily dependent upon editing software such as Photoshop and Illustrator; without this software it would still be possible for Batista to create the same images but the medium used would be entirely different and would take a tremendous amount of time. The use of Photoshop has enabled Batista to take his creativity to a different level. Through the use of software, Batista has taken the multimedia world by storm.
I attempted to create an image that is similar to a work of art by Batista in which he replaced the hair of a woman with vectors created in Adobe Illustrator; this process was much harder than I anticipated. Each vector had to be created individually in Illustrator and then added to the image in Photoshop. The vectors had to then be placed in an order that would work harmoniously together and further enhance the image rather than make the image look over-edited. Each vector that was added created a new layer in Photoshop and was able to be manipulated. I also added graphic flowers to the image. This project taught me the most about photo editing and allowed me to explore the possibilities that lie within Adobe's different software. I am now an avid follower of Batista's work and am inspired to try new things with my images.
