Don't judge a cell by it's cover...

This creation is based off of this illustration of a human cell:

The seed part is the lime telephone.

That might seem like a weird title, but here's why I used it...

Seemingly harmless, these tiny Legume caterpillars are a problem in south Florida for an odd reason...they wreak havoc on plastic microtubing in commercial crop irrigation systems in citrus groves...they eat entrance holes in the plastic pipes and go inside the pipes to pupate, damaging them! How weird! I think around here they are better behaved and just eat the leaves of Bagpod Weed (Sesbania vesicaria)...

It had been several years since I'd last seen one of these small caterpillars and I was just thinking about them on my hike the other day before coming across this tiny young instar! Funny how that works out sometimes...

See below for a more mature example...so skinny!

the system is surprisingly leak free and easy to connect tubing with small plastic conenctors that simply pop into place.

I recently found out I have lost some of my hearing and need hearing aids in both ears. Please don't tell me your sorry!!!!!! I'm jumping for joy because I can finally hear again. This really is a good thing! I got them and right away began wearing them about 11hrs a day - that's how much I love them! I know don't know what I'd do without them.

I have a notch in my hearing a 2000Hz due to meningococcal meningitis, which I had as an infant.

I think the title explains it all...

open fit hearing aid + beads=awesome.

I'll try to get a family memeber to get better pictures tomorrow. I took this myself...

While the traditional protein digestion method (right) can take several hours , the pressurized process developed by PNNL and PressureBioSciences (left) takes just a few minutes.

today I changed out domes and microtubes - the batteries made it in the picture b/c the were in the bag with all my hearing aid supplies as were my hearing aid cases (the phonak boxes)

This is what they look like in...and this very, very close up!

They are an open fit microBTE (phonak versata micro)

I was having trouble with my microtubes staying put till I switched to a longer dome (5mm Long) - I think the micro tubes were the right size (1b) but were just not going quite deep enough into the canal to stay put. Now I'm having zero trouble.

This is the remote to me hearing aids. It allows me to turn the volume up or down and I have programs for special settings like background noise.

What is the tool found in every biology laboratory in the world? The microtube (Eppendorf) ! Whether it contains water, DNA, RNA, proteins, or any other substance, this tool follows the researcher's daily life.

It can be found in different sizes but it is the 1.5mL version that is the most common and used.

Here the idea was to “pop”-ularize this tool.

This is a much clearer picture of what an open fit hearing aid looks with a microtube in the ear - barely noticeable.

The bioclimatic sheere of Expo, popularly known as "La Bola" - "The Ball" - was one of the most symbolic elements of it, and also one of its major innovations: thanks to an ingenious system of microtubes throwing water vapor to environment, getting slightly lower (just a couple of degrees or three) the temperature around, and thus give a feeling of freshness and relief in the hot summer Seville. The same system is still used today in many of the city restaurants, unlike its predecessor, which remains silent, slowly rusting away.

Vintage Deluxe - 'Best of Show Award' by Bass Gear Magazine at Winter NAMM 2014

Inspired by the nanowire-in-microtube structure, Jian-guo Guan and colleagues proposed a facile and effective nonequilibrium heat-treatment approach combined with electrospinning for fabrication of maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) fiber-in-tube and tube-in-tube nanostructures. The precursor was composed of PVP and iron citrate. Fig. 5.21 shows SEM images and corresponding TEM images of as-obtained γ-Fe2O3 fiber-in-tube and tube-in-tube fibers. The figure reveals that the tips of the inner structures are totally separated from the outer tube, and the inner and outer tubes have a closed end. The resultant γ-Fe2O3 fiber-in-tube and tube-in-tube nanostructures may have important applications in a number of fields, such as magnetic separable catalysts or catalyst-supporting materials, sensors, absorbents, microreactors, and so forth, because of their structural characteristics and good magnetic properties. This method can intentionally control the contraction direction of the precursor nanofibers during the heat-treatment process by adjusting only heating rate (R) of the calcination, as R can be easily utilized to tune the temperature gradient established in
