Bought in 1999 for about $100, it had 32MB of flash memory built-in, which gave me the ability to copy about 8 songs onto it via a serial interface. It took forever, but it was enough to occupy my walk to and from class.

It's amazing how much things have changed since then. My LG phone has a 1 GB microSD combined with built-in speakers and the ability to stream wireless stereo audio via Bluetooth.

This is a great little recorder. I shouldn't be selling it at all. If you don't buy it, I probably won't sell it. That's how serious this is.

I put a microSD card in my camera using an adapter, and then put it in my

phone so I could upload to Flickr. I might be able to use this method in

Part one.

One of these little flash-memory based things landed on my desk with a broken uncompleted installation of som Windows XP/Vista hybrid and a BIOS-setup password that was somehow not working.

In order to remove the BIOS password I had to completely disassemble it, but after taking out the small rechargeable lithium-battery, I was able to access the BIOS-setup just fine.

The machine only has the rather slow 8GB SSD (and a 4GB MicroSD that the Linpus Linux it comes with can use together with the internal memory in a pretty clever way), so I have no idea why anyone thought it would be a good idea to attempt installing Windows on it. And a souped up and patched version with parts of Vista and a hell of a lot of drivers no less ...

It's back to the Linpus for this little fella ...
