Here is my homemade controller for a Dance Dance Revolution pad. It allows the pad to be used as a USB keyboard.

A simple demonstration of how the program should behave.

Uma simples demonstração de como o programa deve se comportar.

Drew Bachelor of UWE talked about his project to trigger a camera flash from an Arduino microcontroller board. He wants to make high-speed photos of things like water droplets and bursting balloons.

Here is an Amtel ATMega168 AVR microcontroller. I've got a TTL regulated circuit around the thing and have it hooked up to a very inexpensive serial programmer.

I designed and built a passive infrared trigger for my Canon EOS 5D camera (will work with any camera with a remote shutter release socket) to take pictures when something (an animal) sets off the PIR sensor. This will allow me to set the camera up to automatically capture anythng that moves in front of the sensor. I used a microcontroller to control the camera wake up and shutter release relays. This gives me the ability to control the frequency and number of shots. For the prototype I trigger the wake up relay for 300ms then the shutter release relay for 300ms followed by a 300ms pause before checking the input again to see if there is still movement in front of the PIR sensor. I also put a long delay (1 second) after 5 continuous shots. Depending on results I may replace this long delay with a wait until the PIR is no longer being triggered to prevent too many pictures of one event if the animal stays in range of the PIR sensor for a while. The cool thing is that the camera can go into sleep mode allowing the battery to last for days as the circuit wakes the camera up when movement is detected.

I added a microcontroller to push the 'next' button on the clock every minute. The Arduino used here is certainly overkill, but it gets the job done quickly.

An intensive studio course, which focuses upon developing innovative processes for understanding and deploying a range of software and hardware based real-time I/O and electromechanical tools within the context of contemporary experimental art practice. The course covers real-time systems programming and basic digital/ analog electronics and looks to locate the usage of these within a wider aesthetic framework. In building a critical language with which to analyze relationships between real and virtual, static and mobile, local and remote, online and offline, students are encouraged to implement new tools, new systems and new presentational scenarios for performance, art installations, and other digital arts applications. The concentration in this class is on prepackaged but flexible tools, and rapid prototyping processes.

The tiny wires were a pain in the ass to solder.

The chipKIT™ Cmod is a chipKIT/MPIDE compatible board from Digilent. It combines a Microchip® PIC32MX150F128D microcontroller with a convenient 600-mil, 40-pin DIP package and two Digilent Pmod connectors. Digilent's Cmod boards are ideally suited for breadboards or other prototype circuit designs where the use of small surface mount packages is impractical.

The chipKIT Cmod takes advantage of the powerful PIC32MX150F128D microcontroller. This microcontroller features a 32-bit MIPS processor core running at 40 MHz, 128K of flash memory, and 32K of SRAM data memory.

Each of the 8 DIP switches used for program input to the BS2 microcontroller requires two resistors, so there is a lot of stuff crammed onto this little circuit board, and a lot of wires to all the switches and LED's, so things look rather messy, but it works.

The Arduino Uno is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega328

It has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header, and a reset button. It contains everything needed to support the microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with a AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started.
