I met Neusa in a quick photo session after lunch. I wanted to try the micro focus adjustment that I had done on my 50mm lens already two days ago, but had not had time yet to do.
I went to University of Brasília, UnB, taking pictures of flowers in closeup, searching for better bokehs with sharp focus, when a woman calls me asking permission to ask me some questions. I said, okay, and she began to tell me a case that happened a couple of days ago when a city news program used in an article a photo of a purple Ipe tree in front of the Cathedral of Brasilia.
Immediately I remembered a photo like that I had shot last week (Catedral )
. I really believe that the photo used by the journalist, shot by a professional photographer from the city, is very similar to that mine.
Returning to Neusa, she told all the case about the stolen picture and then began to tell about her fight against the IRS, which, she said, was charging undue tax and she was going to go with some union lawsuit.
I talked a lot and was leaving when I decided to ask her if she would let me take her picture. She asked why and I explained about the project 100 Strangers. She was very suspicious, asked if I had something to prove it and I said no, that it was a project on the Internet, on Flickr. She asked if I was in the federal police force or something. I laughed and said no. Believing in it or not, she began to pose for the photos.
By asking her email to send the pictures later, she opened her purse and began searching for a notebook where she had annotated her email address. Also, she showed me her birth certificate, attesting that she was born in St. Ignatius Farm, in the municipality of Arraia, state of Tocantins.
We ended the meeting with several "good-bye" and "Take care" demonstrating that, even though it was a quick meeting, the two were satisfied with the conversation and experience. Even living so different realities.
This picture is #08 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page

Earlier this summer we planted some grape vines to enhance our trellis. They will hopefully do a more friendly job than the previous plant.
Which was an oriental wisteria that was beautiful but was trying to pull the whole house down.
We mulched the area with compost and a few surprise plants sprung up. Mostly tomatoes, but a small vine was also launched.
Turns out it was a watermelon. This is one of the micro-melons being shot by a pellet. I only had one shot and this was it.
Cheers.

Just bought this lens today. This is one of the true macro champions of Nikon history. It works in my old Nikon cameras and also works with my digital D80. In this case everything is manual, and you even have to guess the exposure. The meter doesn't work. The Manual focus is very easy and precise and if you're in doubt you can use the AF confirmation signal inside the viewfinder of the D80.
