This is one of these shots that are just "picture perfect" the instant you click. Almost no cropping. Everything came together nicely. Spectacular lighting, background, colors, and the great backhand action of the player following the ball.
This image was shot with the Canon 1D-X, and Canon 300mm f/ 2.8 + Ext. 1.4 III. This combination works wonderful in high contrast action environments.

During this two-week sports event, besides shooting extensively for my assignment, I took a lot of time to shoot a great number of images as tests too. I never stop learning. I made notes of the numerous combinations of lenses, f/ stops, shutter speed, and camera bodies.
The vast majority of my images were shot with the Canon 1D-X and the Canon 300mm f/2.8. I also used extensively the new 1.4 II Extender.
This image in particular was shot with the Canon 7D-MII and the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 @200mm. The camera body has a 1.6 crop factor. Technically you are shooting at 320mm.
This image came out as good as you can expect, even at it's natural resolution- not to mention the ball captured at impact, which is a huge bonus.
Here is one fact I reconfirmed: the 7D-MII will give you really wonderful images with the added convenience of the crop factor. Tracking, if you know how to use it, works really well. Every single sport or action activity will require extensive testing too. Ultimately, if you want to make big enlargements or high-quality magazine printing, you will not be able to squeeze out the superb image quality of the 1D-X, which gets pretty evident at higher ISO levels.

Photo Philosophy: Personally, I feel it's important not just to work with light but with shadows. I love the dramatic look of a photo with shadows. It's one of the reasons i enjoy shooting with just one light in a studio.

This was an image I loved and forgot to post. Particularly I liked the forehand's stroke motion flow. It also represented well the tournament's location, main sponsor, and colors.
